Everyone is stupid at something.

I heard an eight year old boy saying to his friend "Everyone is stupid at something, and you are stupid at..."

One thing I'm stupid at is making flight bookings online. One day I arrived at the airport to check in and had one last look at my online produced check in. Time of day was correct, day of the week correct, etc but I had the wrong month. They politely didn't laugh at me.

Anyone else messed up flight bookings they have done online.

Or confessions as to what you are stupid at.

I'm amazed daily at the number of things I'm stupid at:rolleyes:

Many things. I'm trying to decide if I should alphabetize the list or come up with an order of magnitude, most to least important.

Many things and I am still alive and unscathed despite all the sh-t I have put myself through. A couple of times regarding bookings I have booked a hotel for the wrong month - I have done that twice now. Once in Phoenix. When they tried to charge me for no show I said I could not pay for a room I did not use. They did not charge me.

I like to think that as I get older I get smarter, but that is not always the case. But life is fun whether I do stupid or not. :)

Remembering names.
I have to hear a name, say the name, and write it down or it will be lost from memory within minutes.

+1. No matter how hard I try.

Foreign languages. I am dumb as a post. I tried to order pizza and a glass of red wine in bologna, italy a few years ago - it should have been filmed!

Oher than that? I may be a genius!

Bill,
I've done the same thing but I mess up on the AM PM thing. It has happened at least 5 times last year...

We all have strong and weak areas.
The older I get - the stupider I get. I was getting smarter until around age 50 or so. It's been downhill since then. Coordination is going, ability to think and remember is going........

What was the question? :)

My wife works in the HR department at a local university.

She talks about the Math professors that come in that can't write a letter, can't spell and comprehend the letters they get.

Or an English Professors that come in just cringe when she starts to tell them numbers for their retirement and they just say "Oh I don't do numbers"

Same. It's incredibly embarrassing to be introduced, pick up a conversation, and then realize a few minutes in you don't remember the persons name. :o

someone can say to me "hello, my name is Fred, nice to meet you". by the time they say nice to meet you I've already forgotten their name usually. but I will remember their face for decades

nut11 02-13-2014 01:02 PM

Names of people I meet. I try to use a mnemonic device to help in remembering but it usually doesn't work. Fuggit.

Check some of my former posts if you dont believe me.

My skills in general are very polarized. I tend to be very good or very bad at most things. Sometimes it feels like all my skills are in the later category.

About 30 years ago there was a bunch of us guys who used to drink together in a bar. When introducing the guys to someone else there was one guy who's name I could never remember. He got really pissed off and yelled in my face "It's f*ing Tony." He is the only name from that group of guys I can still remember.

flatbutt 02-13-2014 01:54 PM

Names and relationships.

Baz 02-13-2014 01:57 PM

Regarding remembering people's names - I always keep a pad and pencil in hand while in settings where I will meet new acquaintances and/or clients and immediately jot down their names - including those of their pets - if applicable. I never feel intimidated by writing things down as it merely demonstrates someone who cares greatly about details - including the small things like a person's name. I guess a micro-recorder could do the same thing except I prefer to remain silent with my note taking.

I've always believed strongly in keeping detailed notes - a bit anal in that regard, I guess.
