One Big Mother of a Sunspot pointing at earth

Interesting read from Jan 2014

I gotta try to view this, with binoculars or telescope (DUH of course don't look "at" the sun through the binoculars, but point the main lens at the sun, and image it onto the side of a house, deck, or driveway.

Monster Sunspot 4x bigger than earth:

Sunspot AR1944: Bigger than Earth.

That article looks like it was written in early January. Is it still applicable?

I look at stuff year 'round, nothing fancy but I have a 6" reflector scope, even though a simple pair of binoculars can bring the Moon's craters into razor sharp detail, or point the binoc's at Orion's belt dense cluster of pinpoints of light.

I've done the image/reflect the sun spots onto a house wall trick for years.

Sunspots can create a world of hurt with EMI and electronics. I always wondered if they contributed to mutations as well? Some nasty energy and with certain atmospheric issues from time to time I wonder if some of the bad rays don't leak through?

Energy is needed to create all sorts of stuff. I bet with the right chemical mix and the right process conditions that some really interseting things could be cooked up in space or at least in the upper atmos. Not to mention messing with the DNA of bacteria or even protophasing some virus?

Gotta love the God Sun

mutations are mostly driven by chemical exposures in today's world
