pulled my gun on someone today

i was pulling out onto a 4 lane road and turning left. there was a truck down the road in the first lane. (far left). there was another car in the 4th lane in think ahead of him not going as fast.
i pull into the accel lane and put on my right signal. he was still far down the road but being in the honda it just did not have the balls. he had to move over one lane to go around me, mean while giving me the finger. then of course he had to jerk the wheel to get back in front of me. a little harder and he might have flipped it.
so a mile down the road he gets behind me at the stop light. i see the door open so out comes my 45. he comes up to me window yelling and i just politely introduce him to my little 45. he got back in his truck

now for those that think i was wrong, you were not there, you dont know how far down the road his and i suspect he was speeding.
second, i would not have gotten mad at him if the rolls were reversed. i would have moved over so he could pullout.

i did call the police when i got home and let them know what happened.

Sounds totally reasonable to me. He put you in danger on the road and then when he really got close. No foul. I would have done the same, in a subtle way, made it visible to him, not brandishing.

getting out of one's vehicle to be confrontational is asking for trouble.

20 years ago, my friend and i were going rabbit hunting. i had a .22 with me, but my friend would always take an arsenal: .357 pistol, SKS, shotgun, .22, hunting knives, 7mm mag, you get the idea.

so, some donut in a pickup truck takes offense at his driving. i don't blame the guy, actually, but that's another story.

then he comes up behind our car at a stop light, gets out, marches up to the driver's side window and starts reading my friend the riot act and getting more belligerent by the moment. mind you, all the weaponry is in plain sight.

i calmly reach down and pick up the .357 from the floor, don't take it out of the holster, pull it about level with my knees, with my other hand in a position to quickly remove the holster, lower my head so that i can look the guy right in the eye and stare at him. it takes him a second to register that i am staring at him in the eyes, another second to see the pistol in my hand, and a couple more for him to look over the contents of our vehicle.

in mid swear word, he stands up straight and marches back to his truck. it seemed he was walking a bit funny, stiff like, as if he nearly crapped his pants.

sometimes, carrying a big stick gets one out of trouble.

IMO, anytime some yahoo approaches my vehicle for words or otherwise, i am prepared to get violent and wish i had my pistol with me. it has only happened a couple of times, but it only takes once.

I don't think it's considered brandishing your weapon if someone walks up to look at it.

Sounds like he got a good look at it.

Hopefully that satisfies him for a long while.

I would do the same! You used your weapon for self defense. It's why I carry too.

I would have done the same, except here in Kalifornia, it's a ball-peen hammer... for now

This is why we are by law allowed to carry. Self defense.

As to the driving conflict - a whole other discussion.

i want add, partly as advise.
i never gave him the finger as he did me. i did not slam on brakes when he got behind me. actually i really did not care that he was pissed because i did nothing wrong. but my point is i never antagonized him at all. if i had i would not be right in pulling my gun.
i look at it this way. i stopped something before it got worse. i figured someone that was that pissed that long after an incident that was no big deal has some serious issues and i was not interested in arguing with him about it.

not sure how it could get worse. i called the police and told them what happened just as io have said here. they really did not seem too interested.i gave them my plate number and told them what i was driving, which they did not even ask for.

i consider it self defense. someone that is obviously angry at me, then gets out of his truck at a stop light and approaches my car yelling intends to do harm to me.

In AZ if you get out of your car to confront someone, you are automatically, legally on the wrong side of whatever happens next. What you did is called "defensive display" here and is totally legal. It is best that you call the cops before the other guy does, as they tend to see the victim as the first person who calls them. You don't want to be the second guy who calls them with a first guy who can describe your gun to them.

I am not into firearms but I think you were justified to show him your firearm. If someone gets out of their car to confront you than in my opinion they aren't there to socialize.

You pulled out in front of truck travelling at speed on four lane carriageway and caused him to have to avoid you in your Honda. At best, this is really bad, head up arse driving, at very worst, fatal. I wonder if youve ever driven a heavy vehicle. Your .45 wouldn't have saved you. Don't bring a gun to a truck fight.

Then, instead of accepting the responsibility for what he clearly thought was your reckless stupidity and taking the opportunity to get out the car and apologise to the driver like a man, you produce a gun.

What a hero.

this is what i was afraid of. this guy was not there, has no idea how far down the road the guy was or how fast he was going but has an opinion that i was in the wrong. when will i learn not to post anything that happens to me.

oh, he was in a PICKUP TRUCK.

and he passed me about 5mph faster than me. how do i not know he did not speed up when he saw my turn signal instead of doing the right thing and move over into one of the other 3 lanes. there is a reason most do not use a signal around here. people WILL speed up to take the space you are trying to move into.
i did the right thing. i was in an accel lane, and turned on my signal.

yep, because polite driving and allowing folks to merge is just so much hassle... i mean, fk em, if they have their turn signal on and need to merge. changing lanes shouldn't ever be required for polite/safe driving.

Ignore Stuart. There's not many people here who will see anything wrong with what you did.

Stuart's just one of the few who would.

I won't comment or attack you on the driving part of the post because I was not there nor do I feel I have enough details to warrant any commentary.

Now if anyone wants to start a new thread to discuss common sense driving technique...I'm all in and would have a LOT to say on the matter.
