I don't know where I get off answering these questions. I'm a crap rider. :D

Its been years, but I recall the Monsters front end always felt like I was on stilts. When you flicked the bike, it felt like you had a lot of mass rotating, and it was sometimes quite abrupt, and not in a good way. I got the SS shortly after, and recall posting here about its 'telepathic' handling. Buttery smooth transitions from curve to curve.

I think you'd like my M1100. But I'm keeping it.

All this bike needs is a fork brace and a Preston Petty front fender.

I like this a lot.

Both of the bikes I had are gone, but which one did I buy again later? The SS. IMHO, its a better street bike.

My $0.02: The SuperSport is a far more comfortable bike to ride on a daily basis. But it's not nearly as exciting as a Superbike, and isn't that why we ride? If I only had one of them, I'd keep the Desmoquattro.

I own a 750S since 10 years and just bought a 750 F1, I like the older Ducati's better, as mentioned they have more soul.

the SS is plenty exciting. just saying. two wheel slides into canyon curves.... and it can keep up with bikes with twice the HP in the canyons, because the torque curve is....right....THERE! no shifting several times, no nonsense. the torque curve is simply the biz.

It's nice to have a torquey motor. Just imagine that with top end pull, too. :)

You know how people say riding a Duck is as much about soul/feel as it is about the numbers on paper? Riding a Desmoquattro is as much about its rawness as it is about the HP, or liquid cooling, or fuel injection (well compared to the carby SSs at least). There's an immediacy and lack of civility that makes it way more fun (and difficult) to ride.

Thank goodness all these old bikes that stir our souls are relatively cheap.

i understand what you are saying about top end pull.... i just don't see the need to go beyond 135 MPH. my 900SS pulls amazingly right up to about 130. the 749 is still pulling.

HardDrive 03-01-2014 07:58 AM

OK, last one.

HD, is there a kit to do that to my 900SS?
