the Governor's office snapped into action!

My wife recently graduated from Nursing School. it was damn exciting for us to finish..all in all it was an awesome experience for her..and for me.

she received another Bachelor's deg..

next step? send a check to the CA board of nursing, and look for an approval letter to take the the Nursing License exam..easy enough right?

NOOOOOO!!

her check cleared just fine. no letter from Cal Board of nursing..for MONTHS!! not a single nursing graduate has received this letter. some students will have loans come due,..they are simply stuck in limbo. she called, went to sacramento..tried to squeek that wheel. nothing. she was told 90 days from check clear date. effen A!

i suggested she write a letter to Governor Brown. she did exactly that. we kinda wrote it together..nothing disparaging, nothing inflammatory..just a polite request to look into it. we got some email response that they would investigate. it felt very benign...

well today, the CAL nursing board called us. the nice lady said, due to our letter to the Gov, they pulled her application, intervened..and approved the damn thing.

i bet my wife is in a very small group with approvals..the next NCLEX exam is gonna be a small group.

i am actually stunned it worked.

PLEASE dont PARF my thread..please. this is a good thing that happened from my wife's hard work and dedication.. she is so happy right now..she is even vacuuming the house..holy kamolee!!

i hope to post up a "dual income, no kids" thread soon :D

Tell her we are rooting for her!

Once in a great while, they respond. We work with the governors office closely at work it usually takes an act of god to get something done...the trade off being when they want something done, it get's done RIGHT NOW.

Glad your wife was on the receiving end of that something getting done!

Congrats to your wife, Cliff, and good for you both getting the Gov's office to intervene in getting her application approved. My son's GF is currently in nursing school in SoCal and hopefully by the time she graduates, the state will be more diligent getting her approval to take the nursing license exam.

Congrats to you both!

Congratulations, my daughter is a BSN working neuro ICU.

Next surprise is how hard it is to get a job as a new grad nurse, given the shortage. Hospital does not want to hire you without at least a year of experience.

No intention to send this to the dungeon, but the California Nursing Association is pretty mobbed up.

I tell people to write their congressman all the time. When I got my California license, it was looking like it would take at least 6 months for my medicare number to become active. I had been a provider before, but in another state, and every one is separate, so there are 57 different rule books. After about 3 months, a patient suggested I call my congressman. I did, they made a call and a few days later I was ready to roll.

If you complain start at the top because stuff runs down hill (old plumbing joke- payday is every second Friday).

Congrats on becoming (soon to be) DINKS. :)

Congrats to you and Mrs. Vash.

Great idea to write the letter! Let me know when you need to get out of the house so she can study for the test. Mtn bike riding time! Oh and tell her I said good luck though she won't need it.

Congrats to both of you. It's great to get another hurdle cleared. Seems to me you can accomplish a decent amount by writing letters. At least that's according to a couple of my recent experiences. Some years ago I applied for a tax credit on my federal taxes. It was a decent amount - $8K. The IRS denied it saying I didn't qualify because I didn't prove to them I was who I said I was and lived where I said I lived. They asked for six examples of proof I was who I was and lived where I did. Trouble was they were all based on showing a physical address, and I had most of what they wanted listed under my PO box. I ended up contacting the tax payers' advocacy agency of the IRS, wrote a blistering and insulting letter to the IRS and IRS Commissioner, also wrote a letter to my local Congressman. I also sent alternate documents of proof of identity and residence. Within a month, I received a letter from the IRS informing me my tax credit was approved and received a check a couple of weeks after that. So don't give up on letter writing.

Congrats to your wife, Cliff! And writing that letter was a smart thing to do- what did you have to lose? Sometimes it works. It shouldn't take extraordinary measures to make the system work but it is what it is.

Are you guys getting a lot of rain up there? Snow in the Sierras? :)

Congrats to both you and the wife Cliff. DINK = 991, right?

Serial, I've posted many times that when you get frustrated or can't get something done, contact your elected O'fficials.
I usually go to the mayor, state rep or congressman and it's worked out very well on may occasions.

But never in a million years would I have considered going to moonbeam.
He's a poopyhead. :D
