All I can say is.......

WOW! The name on the door.... Salt Walther.... didn't he race in the original trans am series also? Can't remember for sure, will have to look it up.

Salt Walther

Found this:

David "Salt" Walther (November 22, 1947 – December 27, 2012[1]) was a driver in the USAC and CART Championship Car series. He also drove NASCAR stock cars, unlimited hydroplane boats, and was a car owner in USAC.
He was the son of George Walther, owner of Dayton Steel Foundry, who fielded Indy 500 cars for Juan Manuel Fangio in 1958 and Mike Magill in 1959. His brother, George "Skipp" Walther III, was fatally injured while trying to qualify as an Unlimited driver in Miami, Florida, in 1974.[2]
David Walther was given the nickname "Salt" during his teen years while racing boats, and is one of only eight unlimited hydroplane drivers to qualify for the Indy 500.

herr_oberst 02-28-2014 05:47 PM

Wow!

Jim Richards 02-28-2014 05:52 PM

Wow, I was wondering where I left that car.

Jerome74911S 02-28-2014 05:54 PM

Why? Why? Why? Who takes a car like that and buries it in garbage for decades? If keeping it for an investment, they would have done better by paying a bit more respect for that car.

WPOZZZ 02-28-2014 05:56 PM

A guy down the street from my brother had a real 959 in his garage. He was probably hiding it. lol

Always my question. Who in their right mind buries a priceless classic race car in their suburban garage?

From the link posted:

"The owner started to repair the car when an injury postponed the repairs and the car sat there ever since."

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what was paid to get that car?

Heel n Toe 03-01-2014 12:26 AM

Prolly somewhere in the $100K - 300K range?

 Gt40p-1067 - GT40s.com

"...read that the new owner paid $2 million but though that sounds high to me maybe the car has some specific sales points like being near the least one, significant race, or hey maybe I haven't followed the market. At least it was a car without two many owners."

That guy Tom Shaughnessy has bought a few notable cars. Several years ago he found a 52 Ferrari 340 America on eBay that was not listed as a Ferrari. He was the high bidder at around 25K. He has since sourced the numbers matching engine.

That is cool, I'd love to fine something like that!

sammyg2 03-01-2014 07:51 AM

I can't believe they used those POS british rubber flex joints on the driveshafts instead of CV joints.

This isn't the first time I've seen someone build a frame structure in order to store more **** around the 'prized possession'.

(I'll bet those Gurney-Weslake valve covers are worth more now than a whole engine cost back when this car raced.)
