Salt Walther
Found this:
David "Salt" Walther (November 22, 1947 – December 27, 2012[1]) was a driver in the USAC and CART Championship Car series. He also drove NASCAR stock cars, unlimited hydroplane boats, and was a car owner in USAC. He was the son of George Walther, owner of Dayton Steel Foundry, who fielded Indy 500 cars for Juan Manuel Fangio in 1958 and Mike Magill in 1959. His brother, George "Skipp" Walther III, was fatally injured while trying to qualify as an Unlimited driver in Miami, Florida, in 1974.[2] David Walther was given the nickname "Salt" during his teen years while racing boats, and is one of only eight unlimited hydroplane drivers to qualify for the Indy 500. |
Wow! Absolutely amazing.

Wow!!!

Wow!

Wow, I was wondering where I left that car.
|
Why? Why? Why? Who takes a car like that and buries it in garbage for decades? If keeping it for an investment, they would have done better by paying a bit more respect for that car.
|
A guy down the street from my brother had a real 959 in his garage. He was probably hiding it. lol

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what was paid to get that car?
|
Prolly somewhere in the $100K - 300K range?

"...read that the new owner paid $2 million but though that sounds high to me maybe the car has some specific sales points like being near the least one, significant race, or hey maybe I haven't followed the market. At least it was a car without two many owners." http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1393667053.jpg |
That guy Tom Shaughnessy has bought a few notable cars. Several years ago he found a 52 Ferrari 340 America on eBay that was not listed as a Ferrari. He was the high bidder at around 25K. He has since sourced the numbers matching engine.

That is cool, I'd love to fine something like that!
|
I can't believe they used those POS british rubber flex joints on the driveshafts instead of CV joints.

(I'll bet those Gurney-Weslake valve covers are worth more now than a whole engine cost back when this car raced.) |
