Crappy Vintage Car Insurance Policy Requirement

So I just tried to sign up for Leland West insurance today for my 75 911 Targa. I qualify for every single part of their policy except one. Even though I live in an urban area (NYC) and we own another car, because my spouse and I don't individually own our own daily drivers, LW won't insure me. Basically, their underwriting requirements demand that a married couple in the most aggressively covered mass transit location in North America own three cars if they want to insure the third, vintage, one. Considering that both of us commute by subway and can prove it with our Metrocard purchases, this was a depressing snag, especially since - obviously - no one there can do anything about it.

The QUESTION is, is there another vintage car insurance that doesn't have this ridiculous requirement? I don't want to have to call every single one individually and hope someone has a good experience.

I have been happy with Hagerty, but then again I haven't had to use it, and hope to keep it that way. They do require a locked garage and the keys stored somewhere other then in the car.

that sucks but I can somewhat see their point

I own 4 vehicles so I don't have your problem but when I signed on with hagerty they only asked for prof of one other car, however my wife's name is not on my 911

Hagerty - have had them exclusively for all my collector cars - never a problem and very easy to work with. Plus their website rocks if you are interested in valuations.

I had to file a claim with Hagerty and I was 100% happy. They were great. Absolutely would use them again.

From the Hagerty site: All household members with a valid drivers license must have a regular-use vehicle for daily driving.

Here in the North 40, I ran into the same issue. I went with another underwriter for double the cost but it is still cheaper than a DD for every household member.

They never asked me about anybody else in the house when I got my policy, I had it covered but it was never an issue for me.

But the OP doesn't. Just like I didn't. 2 drivers & only 1 car kills any chance of collector car insurance.

Check with your local agent for your existing policy about an agreed value or stated value policy. That is how State Farm covers my 356, quite cheap, and my agent allowed me to lower most coverage when it wasn't running for a long time.

You do not normally want a 'stated value' policy... look at the wording...

You can end up with Actual Cash Value.

Yeah same for me. I don't need a third car (yet). My wife doesn't drive.

I called ANPAC on recommendation from another thread. But now I get a letter that they will cancel/not renew due to my using it for AX.

You have to be careful with what you estimate your car to be worth. I was with American on my 951 that had a engine fire. I guessimated 7.5 for the car on the original policy, when the adjuster came out to inspect the damage he totaled the car at 14.5.

And the daily driver clause is so that you don't drive your collectible a a major mode of everyday transportation. Do you blame them?!

I'm with State Farm, have been for 30 years. My son is a new driver, 17 years old. I own 7 cars, nothing extravagent, all fully insured. Around $250/mo for everything. My son is actually rated on the '74 911 over all the other cars. My agent determined this was the most cost effective option for me. Adding my son increased my bill by about $60/mo.
