Kicking my Own *ss
 

Had my full right knee joint replaced 10 weeks ago, and the physical therapy has been slow. The doc is going to put me under for a few minutes and "manipulate the joint" by pushing my foot back to contact my butt, e.g., kicking my own *ss.

Anybody had this done before? Seems legit, albeit more pain for a while.

So turn your head to the northside of ATL Friday about 9 AM EST and listen for a loud CRACK, similar to breaking an axle nut loose with a help of 4-foot cheater bar. :D

All this to get the knee joint to seat properly?

Sounds a lot like working on the 911's shift coupler to me.

if a doc hadta put me under in order to increase my "flexibility and limberness" I'd be pretty darn nervous!

I think it will work.

I had a similar thing with my thumb that had been broken and wouldn't bend as much as it should. It was fine but cars kept stopping thinking I was hitchhiking. The physio gave it a huge nasty sudden bend that made me want to cry, and after the pain had died down a few days later I found I had almost normal movement in it and it's been great ever since.

I had a depressed lateral tibial plateau fracture a couple of years ago.
Maintaining flexibility in both flexion and extension is vital. Go kick your a$$.
Make sure you work on extension as well.

I'm not sure what "working on his extension" has to do with his knee, but it'll certainly reduce his stress. ;)

Yep, had a forced joint manipulation 6 weeks after an ACL repair 22 years ago. It was not fun. Tore part of my quad, had to wear TED hose. It sucked. But I got complete range of motion in my right knee back. It did hurt worse than my ACL repair did. Lots and lots of ice and lots and lots of pt. I will be thinking of you on Friday.

George it is not to seat the implant, it is to break up fibrotic/scar tissue.

You are going to want to ice that baby down afterward.

Mrs. Coats was in the operating room when they did the joint replacement back in December, and will be present on Friday. I'll see if she can capture an audio recording with her cell phone. I don't care to see the procedure, but I'll bet the sound is something else.

For full disclosure, the Doc said he's done thousands of these, and only once, did he manage to fracture a femur :eek:, but was quick to add the patient was an 80+ year-old woman with weak and brittle bones.

My father had this procedure after knee replacement. He was very happy with his new knees after all the rehab was done.
