Anyone ever hot rod a golf cart?
I have a 2004 Club Car 48 volt regen electric golf cart that I use half a dozen times a year to get around at big shows. The rest of the time it just sits. I could use it on the street here in town if it would go 25 mph. Does anyone in the PPOT brain trust have any experience modifying electric golf carts?

Not personally. I live in a Golf Course community, (even though I don't play) so there are tons of carts running the streets here.
Some seriously tricked out ones as well. They just seem so much more convenient to get around in for short trips around the community like dropping the kids at school or heading over to the pools and rec centers. Have not been able to come up with a compelling reason for the wife as to why I need one. May just have to take up Golf.

This is going to sound like BS, but major innovations, hot rodding, of golf carts has come from retirement communities.
A friend of mine runs the University of Dayton Research Institutes innovation shop and they built a number of prototype electric vehicles for Special Ops folks. I have been to his place many times for other work they do on UAS. The Chief Engineer on the project said they bought most of the real sophisticated stuff online from vendors that cater to guys who have the time and money to hot rod golf carts. You can buy it all: batteries, transmissions, etc. He said it is a bit of an epidemic: Some communities are restricting how fast these things can go. current local rules make carts street legal in our small town
with no license or insurance but driver must have a state license they are limited to 20 mph quickest speed up is bigger wheels with lift kits to clear there are also regear sets or faster motors to get more speed but they look odd to me like a donk and tippie I have been hunting a gas off road cart buggy/sand-rail as I think that would be a better handling cooler ride but they all have cheap china built motors |

when I lived in the Bahamas, we bought one in Florida and had a larger/faster motor installed before shipping it over...the thing would fly. We would zip past gas powered carts in quiet bliss. It would squeal the tires if there was even a little sand on the roads.
