My Very Lucky Cat and RV Story-Today
So three weekends ago, one of our cats went missing for a few days. I figured the coyotes got it, its happened before. We'd had the RV open to do stuff and twice I went into it to see if the cat might have been in it. Couldn't find it. Closed the RV and I went on a two week trip to Vancouver and Toronto. Got home late last night.
This morning I open up the RV to put some stuff in it and the first thing I notice is severe scratching damage to the side of the couch (WTF, rats?). Then I see some cat poop and thought "ah crap, I've got a dead fuking cat in here, but it doesn't smell like dead anything, so my son and I pull it out, level it and open up the sliders and we start hunting. I see the cat's tail sticking out from under the slide out bed (about a one inch gap between the bed and the floor). I touch it and it moves! So we take the bed apart and find the cat sitting there and not moving, but alive. It was locked in there for three weeks!!! We get it out and its pretty sedated/dehydrated and we think we might have to take it to the Vet for an I.V. or something. We offer it some water, it drinks a lot of water and in five minutes its walking around like nothing happened. I'll call Coachman on Monday and see if I can buy a couple of yards of the original leatherette (its only one year old) and have a local upholstery guy put it in. Might be a few hundred bucks. While I'm glad the cat is OK, I'm much happier that it didn't die in there and ruin my relatively new RV. That's one lucky cat! I am sure it is pissed at you, might consider watching your back for a while. I would probably make it a very special dinner...
Wow, I am glad he is ok. Might still be a good idea to take him to the vet for a checkup.
Glad to hear he survived.
While I'm happy about the cat, I'm happier than schit that it didn't die in my new $80,000 RV a few weeks ago. Have you ever seen a gelatinous dead animal? I had a few rattlesnakes in a freezer once and the power went out while I was camping in July. I threw the refigerator away. A few more months, with warmer weather, it would have been dead in a day or two.

Hugh, check your shoes before putting them on. They can be very vindictive.
Watch your shoes and pillow. It may tell you what it thinks about being locked up....
Its purring up to me and rubbing me for for attention. He's fine.
That's so you let your guard down. ..... Cats are devious.
Glad your cat is no worse for wear.
One of our kitties got stuck in a neighbor's garage for 4 days. After we rescued him, he drank like mad for about 5 minutes. No retribution. He was just super happy to be home. I don't think he left the house for 2 days, which is totally against his personality. |
Glad to hear - 8 more lives to go!

Curiosity almost killed the cat!
One of mine got stuck inside my 914 for a night. They are such snoops....they love to explore! Luckily I saw it in there the next morning and let him out. But not before some clawing damage to the door panels. :( Just happy he is alive.... |
I have pulled the carcass out of the belts/fan area of more than one car in my life. Glad to hear yours is o.k.
Hugh,
Keep an eye on it for kidney function. That long without water can really stress the kidneys. Best of luck. Les |
Hugh, great news,, my son't cat just came back after 16 days last week. They think it got caught in someones garage.. amazing animals
found a dead cat in my old mustang a couple years ago. one of the remaining stray cats left by neighbor. if I ever start working on the car one day I guess I'll remove the skeleton. not as messy and smelly as the bloated rotting corpse was when I found it
I am surprised that 3 weeks went past with no cat and a thorough search was not mounted.
I have 18 acres, and I'm up against several thousand acres of wild lands. I get deer, coyotes, rattlesnakes, and sometimes bobcats. I found the head of a deer in my backyard once. Just the head.
Animals disappear once in a while without a trace. |
The only downside I can find to owning a Chevy Volt is that when I pulled out of my parking space one day in the first weeks I owned it, my younger (15!) cat was standing there looking stunned. She had been sleeping under it and of course it made no sound when it started and backed out. The tires missed her, thankfully. For the next weeks I took a long brake line and swept under the car before starting. She didn't like that and quit hanging out there.

Hugh, are you the same guy who suggested poisoning cats in a guy's yard?
