Grand Budapest Hotel
A rarity for us - two theater trips within a week. Today was Grand Budapest Hotel. Wes Anderson's last movie, Moonrise Kingdom, is one of my favorite films ever. He kind of makes the same movie over and over again, but his style and sensibility are without peer right now.
Most of the time after a movie I find myself thinking of various things I would have done differently, or things I didn't agree with. Never happened during or after Grand Budapest Hotel, in part because it is such a wacky, stylized aesthetic and narrative, I wouldn't know what the hell to do ![]() If you like Wes Anderson, you'll love this film. Ray Fiennes is spectacular. Every scene is meticulously executed. It is silly, funny, touching, and at its heart, has deep statements about society, times gone by, and totalitarian regimes - though those things never get in the way of the humor and the heart of the film. You may scratch your head in parts, but that is Wes Anderson. |

Bottle Rocket and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou are 2 of my favorite movies, so I may have to see this one. Thanks for the recommendation!
