Went to Amelia Island Concours

Spent several hours on Sunday walking around and lusting after some of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen. I even saw the car that A.J. Foyt drove in the 1960 Indy race which I attended. Like finding a long lost friend. There were all kinds of classes, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Aston Martin, Zagato bodied cars, etc, etc. It was a beautiful day with temps around 70 degrees and loads of people walking around trying to see everything (impossible). Some pics.

nice pics. I really love the nice green grass. Can't wait to see that (grass) up north. What does a ticket cost for the event?

Tickets are cheap compared to some of the Monterey week concours. $60 the day before/$80 the day of. You can go on Saturday and see some very cool hardware at the Cars and Coffee they have the same field. Very user friendly event. Sensory overload for any car nut.

What Manny said is correct. Add to that $15-$30 for parking and the 6 1/2 hours or so of viewing time is a bit pricey. However, the event organizers pick a charity each year to receive the profits. Under the circumstances, I don't mind shelling out the bucks. There were about 300 - 400 cars there, every one a winner! I made one lap of the field to see what was there and then went back to spend more time at the areas that interested me the most. The Porsche and McLauren racing cars were quite popular but I liked the Zagato bodied car class the best. The pre 1915 cars are always a big hit with this year being no exception. I'm not a motorcycle guy, but there was a class for antique motorcycles that had some very rare exhibits. Some restored, some original. Very big bucks involved there! By the time I left, I figure that I had walked a good 3-4 miles. All in all, a very enjoyable day.

Awesome pictures, thanks for posting. The AJ Foyt Indy car is my favorite, along with the other vintage race cars. Amazing.

The only thing I wish they did (which I never heard) was have the owners start the cars as part of the judging. May not be possible with all the cars, but boy, some of those old F1 and Indy cars would've been a blast, not to mention the old Porsche plastic race cars.

Let em run...........

All of the award winning cars were driven to the award stand. The one that I found to be the most interesting was the car in the last picture, the Blitzen Benz. The engine did not like to idle, but the driver was trying to keep the car running and moving without tearing up the grass. He had to keep on pushing in the clutch and revving the engine. Every time it would give off a large puff of very rich. black exhaust gas. Fun to watch, terrible to smell!

Um excuse me, that's Fibuh Glahs. Just kidding. Where's my Grey Poupon?

In all seriousness, love the pics! We have a few humble car shows calling themselve concours here. I like Councours D' Elegance, which used to have a Scarab. They'd fire that beast up and you'd have to wear earplugs or stick your fingers in your ears if you were anywhere close by. Love these old cars!!

I went early to Amelia Island a couple years ago and most EVERY car was driven onto the course. This year the only I only saw a motorcycle pushed to the award stand.

This poor guy pushed his bike up there in a tie and jacket

That's not a "poor guy." That's Wayne Carini - owner of F-40 Motorsports and is the star of the "Chasing Classic Cars" TV show.

Did not as such attend this year but did see some of the cars as I cycled by. This one was parked near the entrance to the Ritz:

Show bonus

After leaving the car show, I met up with Mericet (Neil) and his lady friend at a local restaurant. We got the opportunity to chat about a number of topics of interest to us both. Nice guy, always nice to meet folks that are otherwise just names on the net!

ya I know, should have been in Green! They appeared to be filming the wrap up of one of his shows before he went to the podium. One of his cars also won an award.

I was at the 1960 Indy 500 and got to see that car race. My Dad was a big Indy fan and took me along that year. If I remember correctly, Foyt was a DNF. I think Rathman won on worn out tires with Ward coming in second. Funny, but it doesn't seem like that race was over 50 years ago!
