Red Band Society
Have any of our Spaniard Pelicans seen this? "Polseres Vermelles", an original Spanish TV show. Now they are shooting the Pilot in Atlanta for Fox.
Neat premise, I hope it does well. Sounds better and more interesting than some of the schlock they throw on the tube these days. “The Red Band Society” is a story of friendship, overcoming obstacles and the will to live. The show puts the role of the doctors to one side and gives the protagonism to the patients, kids aged between 8 and 17 who, despite their illness, have the same worries as any child their age and the same desire to laugh, fall in love and to discover new things. The ever present tenderness and sense of humour add a vitalistic tone to the series." "There are some people in this world who face life head on, who know the true meaning of friendship, who take life’s knocks and get back up again and whose lives are powered by love. They are The Red Band Society. The Red Band Society laugh, cry, struggle and fail like all of us, but they do so with a special kind of intensity, which is why they live their lives twice as much as the rest of us" Just thought it was a cool concept. I know there are fellow Pelicans who have kids who deal with this stuff every day. Supposed to be a very positive series. Red Band Society (TV Movie 2015) - IMDb

I have not seen it. It has been a great success in Catalonia (it is filmed in Catalan language) and a moderate success in the rest of Spain after it was dubbed into Spanish.
Supposedly the red bands refer to the identification wrist bads worn by the patients in the cancer part of the hospital. I must confess that I mostly watch American shows since the quality of the Spanish series is generally low and they are aimed at a target audience where I do not fit at all. I am glad some of our local shows are a success abroad. |
