Pebbletec pool finish repair
Has anyone had any luck repairing a pebble tec pool finish? Ours is crumbling and cracking in a few places around the edge. I feel like it shouldn't be bad to repair if I can find where to order a small amount of it. Just have a few small areas to patch. Pictures coming soon.

You might try the troublefreepool.com forum. Several pool builders frequent it.
Good luck!

There is a epoxy mix used on outside stairs that might work

that's some horrible stuff to have around a pool. I've removed a trailer load of it and gone back with spraycrete. I used to have info on a company that sold different types of it. it's just stone mixed together with a mastic/adhesive and trowled down. very prone to do just what your's is doing. I'll try to find info for you and get back with you. been many years since I've seen this though. hate that stuff. try spending a 95F day on your knees working around a pool with this or exposed aggregate concrete

you might be able to patch it by putting down a layer of thinset, taping down a layer of rocks/pebbles and gently washing down with a hose until it matches existing before it sets too hard. I've come very close to matching sections of deck I cut out and replaced but this was with fresh concrete and pea gravel. done it with river rock also. I've never seen such a rough surface pool deck like this before. must be brutal to walk on

The pebbletec is only the lip and the there is gravel most of the way around the pool and a concrete section near the patio and a sitting area. We would like to rip the pebbletec out and put in finished concrete most of the way around the pool, but that's a few years out. I'd like to patch this up in the meantime.

That looks like it'd do the trick. At least for now. Thanks john! Any tips for working with the stuff or is it pretty similar to working grout or concrete.

first time I've seen the stuff. looks like the builder might have had a shaped trowel to get a consistent finished shape. I've tried many different things when finishing up defects in the coping on my pools. used to take a plastic container like an empty half gallon ice cream bucket and cut out a section maybe 4 x 6. it's flexible enough to get the shape and finish you want. for the last couple years though, I've been using plastic bondo spreaders. you can get the curve you need starting on existing good surface and hold it as you pass over repair area. bought a fancy stainless trowel in the shape of the coping forms I use but could never get it right. bondo spreader works so much better.

The guy who remodeled our pool said any Pebble Tec above the water line is subject to cracking, especially the rounded edge like yours. We have Pebble Tec above the water line, but it's straight. It's over 15 years old and hanging in there.

Ya it's definitely not aging well. Has been patched once before already. Like I said, would love to rip it all out and put in concrete, but that's a few years out.
Oh and I discovered tonight that an area between the falls and the pump gets damp when the falls are running. Guess I need to dig that pipe up and replace it, especially before we pour concrete. |
