Artichoke festival
Castroville, Artichoke Festival
Anyone been to this? If so your impressions? (Yes, I know it will be dorky/corny... artichoke ice cream, artichoke burgers, crowning of the artichoke queen... what can I say, we are easily amused.) I have been up and down the coast a dozen times and often stop in at the "Giant artichoke" for a snack. We would be driving up from L.A. so a lot of fun road trip type stops along the way.

My wife is from Gilroy, which is famous for their Garlic Festival (just over the hill). I've been to both years ago and both were fun. Dorky yes, but fun. It's up to the individual if you enjoy yourself or not. The Garlic Festival was more entertaining, but I like artichokes better.

I've bought artichokes in season from a stand in Castroville, and they are WAY better than what's available at your local grocer. Head over to Monterey to the Fisherman's Wharf and have dinner at The Old Fisherman's Grotto if you get a chance.

LOL yes it's dorky. But these types of events are fun for me. I also put on an annual pumpkin patch, so that might mean that I'm biased. |
