Smelling something that isn't there

Lately I get a very strong scent of wet paint. It's the weirdest thing ever I'm at work or at home and all of a sudden it's like someone is painting the place. Anyone else ever get have this happen?

Por_sha911 03-19-2014 06:24 PM

That can't be a good thing. Have you had any other symptons? Have you started a new med?

Head416 03-19-2014 06:29 PM

Does it smell like ammonia? Have you been working out more than usual?

cashflyer 03-19-2014 06:47 PM

Does the smell cause you to get erections at inappropriate times?

slakjaw 03-19-2014 06:47 PM

No ammonia just paint. Like latex based paint.

Is someone trying to gaslight you?

nasal polyps?

I have heard of a guy who smelled toast all the time.

Turns out he had a brain tumor. But that seems like a really unlikely thing in your case.

Get someone else to smell your breath, and if they can smell wet paint, well maybe stop drinking the stuff. No seriously talkt o the doc because it can be indacative of some bad liver/kidney/things.

I hope it is not a neurological thing. I had this weird thing where I could feel a liquid running over my feet, and it's not what you are thinking. I thought it was pretty groovy but my GF was a neurological nurse and said BAD, VERY BAD.

Not casting stones or making ANY insinuations...

Phantom taste and smell during opioid withdrawal -- is there a way to stop it? - WebAnswers.com

Maybe try the zinc pills and see if that works? Don't know if giving up something else would cause the same problems?

Hmm, some of the other posts might make sense if viewed in that light....

Some of the answers in here are truly funny.

OP, hope that you're ok

Check with that babe living upstairs... maybe she's redecorating.

Frontal lobe brain injury can cause this, I am recovering from a significant brain injury and have lost my sense of taste and smell. Sometimes I get weird things like smell copper and some things taste like soap. Don't ignore it, see a doctor.

I hope you are fine.

Just read some of your posts in the political and religion section...you sure that's paint that you're smelling?

Jim Richards 03-20-2014 05:12 AM

All liberals, and Norwegian bachelor farmers in MN, smell the aroma of latex paint. Time to come out of the closet, slak. ;)

I believe this condition is called phantom smells:

I would be inclined to make an appointment with a doc to get it checked out.
