When I get there ........

I looked at this car 15 years ago after it had been in a flood back them. It has been sitting for all this time with the windows down. The smell of mouse feces, and mold emulating through the open windows was astounding. Then the whack job, tries to ask me to help him get a 1978 motorhome running that has not ran since probably 1985.
Oh well, gotta go at least look when they pop up close.....

HardDrive 03-20-2014 10:58 AM

What a dirtball.

Steve Carlton 03-20-2014 11:00 AM

Wow. Just wow.

onewhippedpuppy 03-20-2014 11:00 AM

That's not at all deceptive......

Maybe he thought I wouldn't notice....... It was only 10 minutes from work and I got to see some fracking operations up close so all was not lost, if I had driven 45 minutes, I would have been steamed. .

His ad reads Phone calls only. He doesn't list a phone number.

Agree to pay his asking price in cash but then bring Monopoly money.

Yeah, he's trying to sell it on CL, too - this is the picture he's gonna use!

April 1st is just around the corner. Someone could put up all sorts of CL ads for cool stuff at too-good-to-be-true prices and list the GTi dude's phone # as the contact. Tell 'em to please text before calling. Heck, he doesn't even need to even have that cool vintage Fender Strat or Harley panhead for an ad to be placed for them...

I always ask when this picture was taken? I have been burned as well. I say where is this car? Showing them the email and pics.

They say "here". Me...............................really? - when was this pic taken? 1995?

fastfredracing 03-21-2014 04:45 AM

I did ask him how recent this pic was. He told me a it was a few years old, but the car is still in his words " very nice" . My stomach sunk a little when I pulled up. He only wanted $2500.00. I hope I did not let this deal of a lifetime pass. I wonder what I could have got the motor home for?
His landlord was tossing him out, and he had to get all his stuff off the property in 3 weeks. Our rental house crew would have a hard time cleaning this place up in 3 months. He was a textbook hoarder.

yellowperil 03-21-2014 05:03 AM

You did not "miss out" on deal of a lifetime. If you ran away, far away, you were smart. And don't look back.

asphaltgambler 03-21-2014 05:03 AM

Fred = I've looked at soooo many cars over the years from private and dealers that I now automatically print the original ad, entire email exchange and pics to have in hand. Because of exactly this type of 'deal'

I mean at that point........................................I'm already out of the deal but want to make sure the seller understands to what end they were lying, not misrepresenting the vehicle before leaving.

BE911SC 03-21-2014 09:31 AM

I learned that lesson here on Pelican. Saw a very nice 3.2 for sale in the classifieds, looked great, great colors, appeared very sound and worth a look. What I should have asked was how old the ad photos were. I see the car in person and it was clearly an older car than the photos. Not a bad car, just not the car portrayed in the ad and not worth the ask. Nice guy, decent car, just not what the ad showed. Since then I ask about photos vs. actual condition.

onewhippedpuppy 03-21-2014 09:40 AM

Ultimately if the guy is a liar, he's probably going to waste your time. The old photo thing bit me on a boat several months ago, the seller told me the photos were two years old but the boat was even nicer than it appears. After a 5 hour drive and a hotel stay I find that it was a total POS, and the guy was a total BS'er. That's just the risk you take unfortunately.

asphaltgambler 03-21-2014 10:31 AM

As Judge Judy says " You don't have a current photo of the vehicle in great condition because it doesn't exist !!

M.D. Holloway 03-21-2014 10:52 AM

nice hood scoop...

Tobra 03-21-2014 11:16 AM

That is not even the same car as the one in the first pic

Correct. Look at the rims. It's not an old picture.
