WTH are these?

These things popped up in the last few days; they've sprouted up through the cracks in my driveway. I accidentally stepped on one and these are the critters living within. I did some internet research and I think I know what they are, but I'd like a 2nd opinion.

looks like termites to me. I'd check the perimeter of the house really closely

futuresoptions 03-20-2014 05:32 PM

Yep, Termites...

HardDrive 03-20-2014 05:34 PM

Termites. Take action against them with 'extreme prejudice'.

Do they still make Dursban? Apply liberally if so.

widebody911 03-20-2014 05:57 PM

Yeah, that's what I thought. These suckers popped up quick! I've already put a call in to my pest control place.

Dursban (chlorpyrifos) is an organophosphate....and is now basically outlawed....along with Diazinon and some of the other traditional pesticides.

There are synthetic pyrethroids now that have sort of taken their place.

Call your bug man...they'll know what to do.

I still have some chlordane . I use it mostly on carpenter ants. Best stuff ever.

I've never seen anything like that. I know subterranean termites make a mud like tube on the inside of foundations up to the wood. I still have a small amount of Orthene. Around here we have lots of red ant colonies. I put a small amount of it in a water can and slowly pour it down the colony entrance. By the next day the whole colony has collapsed.

Judging by your user name...you would know!:p

Termites. Termidor liquid (BASF) or Sentricon bait (DOW). Your pest control folks should know what is best in your area. I think you might have formosan termites in your area. Aggressive.

Alien invasion. Next sign is your cat starts talking to you in English.

Next thing you know.

Yup, definitely termites. Typically, if they're that close to your home, they're already IN your home, too. Definitely call in the pros.

widebody911 03-31-2014 06:17 AM

Exterminator guys scheduled to come out tomorrow, but yesterday I got a panicked phone call from the wife. The house was being invaded by these winged things, which seemed to be coming from under the fridge. Pulled the fridge out...

This stuff works great. 1 bottler per gallon is the way I mix it.
