Any piano experts?
Wife is thinking about getting rid of her piano. Thing is, we have no clue what it's worth, so of course, I turn to the brain trust. It's a Gulbransen upright, and according to the serial number, it was built in 1957 (last serviced in 2008).
Any ideas? **Edit** Had the date wrong.

Its pretty sad. Here in Sweden used pianos are dumped as trash or given away.

May do better donating to a local school, church, or other non-profit

Used pianos are cheap. Around here in the midwest they go for $150-$300. Few people want them, tough sell.

Upright? Not worth much - unfortunately.

I once had a Baumeister upright from 1895. Needed new strings and the wood was rotting away. I had to pay someone to come and take it away.

Thanks, guys. Saw some on ebay ranging from 100-1500, then saw another website touting $17-25k for one. Then, found a site that said it's impossible to tell, and if it's a grand (it's not), then it's nothing more than an expensive piece of furniture because they sound like crap...lol.
Lots of no information out there, so I appreciate the guidance here ![]()

I would actually love to see this get organized with knowledgeable piano techs acting as middleman to get sound but unwanted pianos out of peoples homes and into schools as charitable donations. A piano moving/refurbishment company might be able to make this happen and make some decent $$ along the way for their services. There are thousands of quality used pianos out there that still play well and stay in tune but no one is using them.

I could truly have a warehouse full of them by now... Sometimes people can't give them away.

Up here you can't give them away. A lady friend was moving and tried to give one away for 3 months. No takers.
If you want to play one there are 7 of them downtown for the Juno's. Downtown Winnipeg rolls out the pianos for Juno Week | Metro
