1997 bmw 328is both windows are not going up or down
When you press the window switches , there is no response. I was told that the probable cause is the comfort relay [window module]. Where is this relay located?

It's a 97. You can't expect Beemer windows to go up and down forever ......
Sorry I'm no help at all except to point out that there are specific beemer tech forums where you might find a more concentrated and detailed expertize on this topic. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-3-series-e46-2000-2006/. |
BMW windows regulators are a longtime weak spot and BMW never seems to get them right. Though, because both stopped at the same time, you might have an easier problem. Not sure on your car, but on my E46 and Mrs. Lee's E92 the fuse and relay panel is inside and behind the glove box.
|
Older BMWs, such as e30s and e28s, have a circuit breaker for the windows in the form of a button either on the upper dash, (e30), or drivers kick panel by your knee, (e28).
Not sure about e36 cars but you might want to check your owners manual before going further. |
I went through 5 window regulators in a 2 year period. Until I decided to make my own repair and replace the cheap pos plastic sliders that BMW used , with my own fabricated ones. Never an issue after that. But, your problem sound electrical. Do you hear the window motors operating?

I have replaced the comfort relay before, All that I can remember about it is that it is a blue relay. I honestly cannot remember where it is located . Give me a minute, and let me look. ....

O.k, I cannot access all my repair information from home, but from memory, I believe that there is an auxillary relay panel under the drivers side dash. I think there are 4 or 5 relays there. This should be where the comfort relay hides . If you need further help, I can look it up in the morning
