Vettel says they sound like s**t. He gets to explain his description to the pres of the FIA. They ain't happy, but Vettel is right.

Webber did the same thing a year or two ago.

Ewe. That is a hideous sound. Sounds like a vuvuzela.

F1 has been destroyed. It's no longer racing, it's an exhibition of expensive modern art (bad sculpture) put on by teams of bean counters and wacko environmentalists.

The best things F1 could do would be to cut about 200 pages from their rule book, add about four more races a year, get rid of the insane money-grubbing brought on by Ecclestone's regime ($600 for a cheap ticket? "F" that.), and bring back the V12s - or at least V8s.

The new cars are the epitome of overpriced rice-boy culture. God-awful ugly and sounding like crap. F1 has completely lost its way.

Hmmm.
First folks didn't like the Audi diesels. "Those don't sound like race cars!" and the whine everyone heard was from folks who stated things had to stay the same.
Seems these same folks aren't so unaccepting of the Audis since they have cleaned up for the last bunch of years.
Now we are hearing the same griping about F1 cars.
Don't worry, they are still shiney and go fast!
I suspect it might also be nice for folks in the stands not to have to wear ear protection.

Are we really such a reactionary bunch that we can't be more accepting of change?

Best
Les

Not sure about that Porsche-o-phile. I mean, aside from the uh...protrusion...at the nose of the car, I don't see why they look so god awful .

The sound apparently isn't that bad in person, but is muted on TV. Have you seen them in person yet? I haven't, I can only judge the sound by the TV. If they turned down the commentary and turned up the car volume, I think less people would complain.

What logic are you using to suggest bringing back the v12? Power? Safety? Sound? If sound is your only argument for bringing back the v12, thats weak. They are putting outrageous power down with a v6, and its not killing lap times or speed.

Having a v6 doesn't necessarily "destroy" f1. I'm just not following. They are the pinnacle of Motorsport, and are supposed to represent technological marvel.

I'll agree with streamlining the rules and regulations. That really puts a damper on creativity. But to say f1 is destroyed partly because they are "god awful looking" and sound like crap, doesn't have a lot of strength.

Even the 1.5 litre turbo cars sounded better

+1

BTW, Yes the diesels were successful.....given a large advantage by the rulemakers (who apparently have nothing better to do).

And I really can't understand why. The new engines probably rev higher and both dump exhaust straight out of the turbo. The old engines where inline 4's or V-6's so that's about the same. So why don't the new engines scream like the old turbos did?

Even the old CART turbo V-8's sounded good.

I guess the new engines don't have traditional waste gates like the old engines which could be part of it. I remember hearing them in 1984 and the sound on gear changes was incredible. You'd have thought the engine was exploding on every shift!

I'll wait til November to make my judgement.
