Anybody Still on XP?
Anybody still on XP? I am willing to chance it for a while. I have too many programs and periferals that work with XP and I don't see any need to upgrade or to improve what I have and what works for me. I may go through my Windows7laptop just to access the internet. We will see.

I still have one Laptop on XP. I need one app for work that won't run on anything newer. :(
How long before the updates stop from "Microbrain". I don't know but for what I use it for there's minimal risk. |
I am an XP diehard. The computer I am using right now runs on XP and do not plan to upgrade any time soon. However I am slowly migrating the rest of my computers (home, wife, kids, etc.) to Windows 7 and can live with it, so not as painful as I thought it would be.

I still have a few of my office machines using XP. It won't be for long but I am crossing my fingers in the mean time. Luckily everything important is on a server or remote servers.....

We still have several XP computers at the office.
Some of the computers are set up with just one real task. One of them runs a scanner that cost more than a 997 Turbo. The manufacturer was purchased by Microsoft. There is no upgrade path except throw a perfectly good scanner in the trash and buy a new scanner that cost more than a nice house. We have another computer that runs a wide format printer. The software for it is mega bucks. Once again the upgrade path is many thousands of dollars. We have one old computer running Windows 2000. All it does is run a 15 year old 1 TB RAID. It still sits there working just fine. |
I'm still using XP on my two computers. Holding my breath nothing happens. I hate change.

I still have a laptop on XP running my BMW software; since that's all I use it for, I'm not worried.

My 5-year old laptop is XP, I might have to get a cheap device just to go on the internet.
I don't like change either, and the new laptops capable of doing what I want still run $2,000 (cost of a 911 exhaust system). I don't want to waste a bunch of time loading programs, moving files, setting up printers and so forth. It just does not make business sense at this time. |
I have a few computers still running XP because of software and incompatibility issues.
Microsoft did this "kill off the old and in with new" with Windows 98 and 98SE a few years ago. You will still get the security essentials updates for XP for a while but they want more people to buy Windows 8 now. The old planned obsolesce in play. I have a Windows 8 machine and have grown to dislike it greatly. Too childish in some instances and hard to understand at other times. Try printing a page of a pdf file in Windows 8. Want to turn off the computer; here are a few illogical steps to do just that. Sometimes I feel like the 8 box is "OZ" the great and powerful. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, look at the smoke and mirrors over here. Too much change too quick. Microsoft... change it back... |
I have an old laptop in my garagewith XP. I have it to play Pandora. It is so slow that trying to use the internet is painful. It works fine to play Pandora.

I am on a XP machine now. I will run it until it no longer runs. If someone hacks my computer, they can have my spreadsheets and like documents. Everything of importance is not on the computer. |
We have one laptop at home that is XP, everything else is up to Windows 7. When Windows 7 support runs out I hope there is something much better that Windows 8 available.
At work we have to have everything connected to the internet updated to Vista or newer (HIPPA). We have a mix of 7 and 8. We just upgraded mom to Windows 7 as well and while doing the upgrade her sister asked if she was going to 8 and I said I would rather have a colonoscopy with a culvert pipe than support mom on Windows 8. She doesn't like change at all and Windows 7 is much closer to XP than Windows 8. |
Just bought some upgrade parts to update to 8.1 64bit pro. 2gb of memory minimum, and 20gb of HDD space? Holy crap.
I'll run Classic Shell to give me a WinXP look if I can't stand it. I've used Vista on my sisters computer. OMFG what a POS. |
Still have this one system on XP. Don't know why I should upgrade. Everything is working just fi

Five year old Lenovo ThinkPad at home still on XP. Kaspersky is paid up for another couple of years. Wife has it set up for picture/video editing (light duty). Anything worth saving is backed up externally. It's a beast but bulletproof so we'll ride it for a while longer. J

I have an old Toshiba laptop I bought in 2004 with XP. It has a nice 17" screen and over the years I've upgraded it with a 7200 rpm harddrive and 2gb of RAM but it's still slow. It still works fine but unfortunately Adobe photoshop lightroom 5 won't install on XP.
I checked earlier today and Microsoft hadn't released the final XP updates but they're out now and it's updating right now... just finished and now it's doing the required restart to enter everything into the registry. I build my own Desktop computers with 64 bit or 32 bit Windows 7 and I like it now that I'm used to it. It's similar to XP with a bunch more stuff in it and it uses different named folder paths throughout the operating system. I've never heard anything good about Windows 8, but I hear they are coming out with updates to make it more like Windows 7. |
Oh, look... Microsoft is sending one more late night update just to ingratiate themselves to the common man...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397023368.jpg Still on XP here for a short while. Will be getting a new box soon... would like to get it with Win7 on it because I already know from what many have said in this thread (and that other thread on telling your friends and family) that I don't want Win8. I heard from a bud that Win8.1 has some kind of "backdate" feature that you can use to make it look/operate like Win7. Anybody know anything about that? |
Yep.:D

The issue is no more patches or security fixes, so it will become more vulnerable over time.
