I miss Zeke and Dottore

A thread here sent me back to some threads from the past. I really miss posts from Zeke and Dottore.

DanielDudley 04-10-2014 04:31 PM

Well, I'm thinking you could go to other forums and hang with Zeke. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/

You could probably go to church and talk to Dottore, or maybe just bow your head and think good thoughts. I always did think well of him, not at all your typical Porsche rabble...

Evans, Marv 04-10-2014 04:42 PM

A lot of great people have come & gone here. I don't think we can expect everybody to hang around forever. Life & decisions about life change more frequently for some than others, and my guess is a BBS isn't the most important thing in life. It was nice to have them and we should just wish them well in whatever they are doing and wherever they are.

livi 04-10-2014 09:31 PM

True.

Did he die?

There was speculation that he had cancer.

Rick Lee 04-11-2014 06:27 AM

Dottore said he had cancer, so it's not speculation. I do think he has passed away, as no one here has been able to contact him and it wasn't like him to not reply to the folks he knew here.

Aragorn 04-11-2014 07:11 AM

There were a few threads concerning Dottore and the consensus was he passed away.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/749902-anybody-heard-dottore.html

Zeke/Milt was posting up until last year but seemed kind of agitated in a few of his last replies. Think he was tired of people dismissing or not reading his posts and left for a while. Seemed like an ok guy who liked to share his experience with others but was just burned out.

Burnin' oil hasn't posted on here for a while. I enjoyed his quick wit and his posts in ot were generally good natured and funny.

Milt is the same old Milt over at Garage Journal.

He is burned out with Porsches and the folks that love them.

jyl 04-11-2014 08:18 AM

When Dottore's father died, Dottore sent me his father's typewriter, a Swiss tank (Hermes Ambassador) that had been, he said, the background music of his childhood. He wouldn't take payment for it, or for the cost of mailing a 50 lb parcel from Canada. It sits in pride of place in my living room and when I pass it I think about Mark.

Seahawk 04-11-2014 09:06 AM

He sent me his Father's harmonicas...a few of them.

I gave one to my son, who plays it after Taps once week at VMI, our little tribute.

The other two sit behind me when I work from home.

Mark wasn't going to go the way of his father..
who endured much pain & pointless procedures..
he fought as best he could and made his peace..
and part of that was leaving us with good memories..
because he had little time or patience for..
a pity party..

speeder 04-11-2014 10:12 AM

He sent me a heavy package of Porsche books once and many nice emails. He is definitely gone, he was not the type to take the internet too seriously and leave us in a snit.

Huge loss to the gene pool. :(

sc_rufctr 04-11-2014 10:57 AM

If he had children his genes weren't lost.

He defiantly was a good guy. I really hope he's not gone.
Milt was often grumpy but hey so what? I found his posts amusing.

Head416 04-11-2014 11:01 AM

Milt got really crotchety but he knew that and admitted it, which I thought was great. A great guy to have on here and hopefully will drift back after a while.

Hawkeye's-911T 04-11-2014 11:31 AM

Damned sad news about Dottore - good to hear Zeke/Milt is still active & doing his thing & as Head416 says: "A great guy to have on here and hopefully will drift back after a while."

rusnak 04-11-2014 11:34 AM

Yeah, I liked Milt and considered him an ok guy but he definitely got really grumpy. I started referring to him as Grandma after he started lashing out at me for reasons that I still can't figure out to this day. I raise my hand and say that I am probably one of the people that he wants to get away from. It is what it is.

scottmandue 04-11-2014 11:40 AM

Dottore had some great insights, as does Milt/Zeke... I think I have seen Zeke dip his toe in a thread here.

I would postulate that maybe Burnin and Zeke (and others) might be turned away by the younger hipsters that seem to be posting here more and more.

It's your username "rusnak". It just sounds rude... Haha

rusnak 04-11-2014 03:58 PM

at last! Mystery solved!! hahaha! I knew I should have gone for "Man o War" or something more in character.

74-911 04-11-2014 04:04 PM

I always made it a point to read Zeke and Dottore's posts. Hopefully Zeke will wander back this way in time, Dottore: RIP. His always thoughtful and intelligent posts will be sorely missed.

vash 04-11-2014 05:51 PM

there is no sharper wit than burnin's..that guy would obliterate most in a "cut down" fight.

he just pinged me via email about some wilderness news..so he is doing well. busy i suppose..he has an awesome family..i wouldnt post much either with that family.

Dottore..RIP sir!!

ZEKE-MILT..was a funny grumpy man..it was fun watching him develop into a curmudgeon..i scurried off "his lawn"many times. :D

rusnak 04-11-2014 05:57 PM

very sad about Dottore. :(

aigel 04-11-2014 08:42 PM

I don't miss Milt too much. Too negative. At least for a forum I visit to be entertained and amused.

I do miss Dottore. He has a lot of depth and is well traveled. Too bad we cannot find closure on his whereabouts. I still hope he just stopped posting ...

Has it been confirmed that Dottore has actually passed? If so, R.I.P, I will miss his posts and interactions with him.

Not actually confirmed... I really hope he just dropped out and is doing well somewhere exotic.

Or perhaps it is the same old, same old nature of much of the conversation here.

Some of us have been around so much, for so long, that we don't leave much room for new guys and their thoughts. Sorry Squire, scratched your record...

Within a few private conversations with Mark I came to realize that he had spent some time and study in order to better deal with his own mortality. We both have faced Cancer in our life, and I was very unsure and afraid of my own future. He was a bigger influence in my life than he would ever get a chance to know. I don't have confirmation of his passing but can only assume that if he was still with us he would be checking in on some of us and our own journeys through life.
Its funny....He is just a guy I talked to thru an internet forum. never met him in real life but I miss him.
ps....It is not an overstatement to say that this man may have saved my life, he surely saved my sanity.

recycled sixtie 04-12-2014 06:33 AM

Dottore had a certain elegance about him. Zeke came across as being practical and curmudgeonly kind of like myself. So I am not alone in my status - it transcends borders. It is good to see the young uns come onto this forum. Refreshing.

As an aside and I have said this before that members here should pm a phone number to a friend on the forum and if they go missing a quick phone call should establish what happened to that member.

Keep it coming everybody. You rock! G.:)

Joe Bob 04-12-2014 10:09 AM

Sammy has taken over from the crusty Milt/Zeke.....he used to be real sociable and once counted both as friends when I lived faraway, now in the OC....no mas.

speeder 04-12-2014 10:36 AM

That's funny, I thought Sammy was getting nicer lately.

M.D. Holloway 04-12-2014 08:32 PM

If any of you have Dottore's last address feel free to send it to me. I travel extensively and would try to track him down...

jorian 04-12-2014 11:45 PM

I do hope that rumours of Dottore's death are greatly exaggerated.

I believe he lives(d) a few minutes from me. I did have an informal invite from him to check out his G50 at some point. I have an 87 and he has an 88 if memory serves. We also have the 997 in common which he was also fond of.

If someone does have an address I could pop by.

Chocaholic 04-13-2014 05:06 AM

Having been here for well over a decade (changed from my real name to this ridiculous one several years back), it really is haunting how many have gone away for any number of reasons. I think Warren's departure (EarlySMan) was the first that really hit home, as he was so helpful when I was waist deep in semi-youthful enthusiasm in my early Porsche years.

The list will grow fellas...an unfortunate fact of life. But Pelican has been a very positive respite from the turbulence of life over these years. It gets in your blood.

God speed to those who have made it to the other side. Let's meet for a beer when the rest of us arrive.

dipso 04-13-2014 07:47 AM

Milt is doing fine, I saw him the other day. We live near each other.

azasadny 04-13-2014 06:53 PM
