Haas F1 is Go

Good news for Gene Haas and F1 as his entry has been accepted by the FIA

Formula 1® - The Official F1® Website

Word on the street is the car will be designed by Dallara in Italy and will either run a Ford Cosworth or Ferrari power unit.

Great to see a US team being created and I'm sure Haas will make a credible go of it (unlike the pitiful USF1 effort).

Getting an entry is the easy part, the hard work is yet to start as the team has a monumental task to be ready by the start of the 2015 season.

Good luck to all involved!

Wow, one would think they would go with Mercedes power. The way Ferrari has been an also ran for so long, why trust that they will figure it out?

Of course everyone thought Hamilton was crazy to jump from Mclaren to Mercedes when he did. That was the best career move ever.

I thought Ecclestone rejected the idea. He made remarks of how Haas doesn't realize how deep of pockets are really needed... yada. So its going to be a whole new team from the start? Mega effort thats going to take some time to see good results. Hopefully sooner. Looking forward to this development.

whoa, i will believe it when i see them on the grid in 2015 ...

Amitious for sure... When was the last time somebody started an F1 team from scratch?

Deschodt 04-11-2014 02:09 PM

I'd like to be excited but they'll be fighting with Marussia and Caterham for a few years before they either get better or fold...

Stewart turned an F2 team into an F1 team without buying an existing factory. They then became Jaguar and now Red Bull.

I think Mercedes is the most recent? Or did they buy Arrows or something?

rusnak 04-11-2014 04:59 PM

Merc bought Brawn, which inherited BAR/ Honda.

I think Haas needs to mine the rich internet/ tech world for sponsors. I wonder if his plan is to expand his existing HQ?

D'oh! Of course, how could I have forgotten?

Ecclestone always says this until you pay him the money....

If they go with Cosworth power that would also be a new ground up project correct ? Hasn't Cosworth been out of the game for 3-4 years now ? I'm not saying it can't be done just curious. I wish Haas the best. Does Dallara currently do any F1 chassis work ?

dennis in se pa 04-12-2014 02:44 AM

Us old dogs will be happy to see the word "Cosworth" associated with an American F1 team. I hope this actually happens.

Deschodt 04-13-2014 04:18 PM

Cosworth has history, but they were vastly behind under previous regs. It would be even worse now, they'd be 2y behind.
I hope they get a Mercedes engine - what's this Dallara rumor about too? I thought teams were supposed to build their own chassis?

Ford also was mentioned as a powerplant. But I would think the hot tip for Haas would be Honda power with Ross Brawn running the team. We shall see, I guess. One wonders who will get the drive.

The (Very) Short List of Potential American Drivers for Gene Haas in 2015

RicN 04-13-2014 11:40 PM

Danica Patrick deserves to be on that list.

Danica - When donkeys fly.

Maybe if Gene gets GoDaddy sponsorship and has a gun held to his head.

Ha, ha, surely you jest.

I don't see any Americans thatI'd put in the car. If I was starting from zero, I'd hire the best driver I could find and there are more than a few unemployed ex-F1 drivers out there. Not to mention, a host of others that have won in other series.

Patriotism is great but the US isn't the center of the racing universe and to hire Americans over more talented/experienced foreigners (drivers, engineers, any team member) is a good path to failure.
