roe is not at all weird. I've never had it in the sacks like you mention, but I've seen it, and my mother was familiar. Maybe that's a southern thing. Sushi, caviar, it's all just roe.

Even Uni (used in sushi) is actually sea urchin roe.

There's not much you can't get in Asian supermarkets. Every item listed here (save the soft cheeses) should be sold there. As a kid, I loved going to them and watching the token gwai-lo or two ask "what's that" and then get that stunned WTF?! look when their friend would explain it to them.

I like pate, but won't eat liver or kidneys. I pretty much quit eating seafood after the Japanese nuclear tsunami thing.

I would not eat Brussels sprouts on a bet

Parsnips

Parsnips - just cant eat them. I vomit immediately.
Think it was because I was forced to eat them as child ( but used to try & give them to the dog when parents not looking).

But I can eat tripe no problems. My party trick in cafe's in France is to order 'tripe soup' and gobble it up while the other Anglos at the table retch over their steak & frittes.

I'm adventuresome when it comes to food.

I stay away from processed foods.........
I'm a veggie eater and love green food.

My 2 rules for trying anything different:

I will eat anything that won't eat me.
Tell me what it was after I eat it.

If it smells like garbage, I won't eat it. If it is riddled with mold, I won't eat it.

Growing up in the 60s I spent the night at many different friends in many different parts of the country with families from many different backgrounds. At one buddies house his mom made some great fried chicken. His mom grabbed that long piece of cartilage from a chicken brest from my plate and ate it. I was stunned anyone would ever want it, she loved it. Blech.

Vinegar. Hate it and the smell of it. It's actually painful. Can't even do the Easter eggs thing.

I'm also super adventurous...

Used to be a regular at the local sushi bar and the chef/owner would give me all kinds of weird stuff to eat.

Having said that,
Balut, no desire
Sea cucumber, not bad but I just don't get any flavor out of it... and I LIKE squid, octopus, clam, abalone, etc.
Cartilage or gristle gag me for some reason.
Didn't think I would like tripe or tongue but when prepared properly I will eat it.

Haven't tried feet (chicken or pig)

My family, both paternal and maternal, would have sheep head for Easter. My grandfather would split the skull and pluck out the eyes. They ate the brain like it had the cure. Grandpa said the eyes were like candy. I just tried tripe a few years ago, tastes and has the texture of rubber, my wife and mom love it. Mom loved bone marrow. Oh, they BBQ'd brain wrapped in fat, Italian/Greek thing I guess.
I'm Greek and I remember my dad coming home from the market with lamb for Easter. One time he brought the head home too. I must have been about 10 of 11 years of age. The brains are a delicacy.

At Easter, my mom and/of her sisters would make Mayiritsa - a traditional Easter soup may from lamb offal and intestines. I loved this stuff. My family no longer has these dinners, many are long gone, but I will go to Greek town order the soup at Easter time.

My wife once ordered beef cheek at a fancy restaurant. It was nightmarish. I believe special effects guys in the movie industry use beef cheek to extract that stringy stuff that stretches between the upper and lower teeth of aliens when they open wide before eating fat earthlings.

Not even my Filipina wife will eat balut! There are some things she does eat that I won't. For instance, she likes to eat fried fish with the head still on it. Yup, eats the head too, with eyeballs. No thanks.

Balut - I'd struggle with, I think. I read it is eaten with beer, so that probably would help.

On a similar note - has anyone had pig embryo? I would also struggle with these, especially if I had to butcher it myself. Sometimes, when wild hog hunting, you'll get the opportunity ... I know some cultures will jump on it. I'd have to wait until it is on the grille, I think ...

Used to love brains growing up. Still love it I am sure, but we got scared after mad cow hit and didn't even eat hog brain any more. I think it was wise. Other animals can carry it, not just sheep and cows. Check out the guys in Kentucky:

Kentucky Doctors Warn Against a Regional Dish - Squirrels' Brains - NYTimes.com

Here a list of daring delicacies.
Top 10 Most Daring Food Delicacies in the World

Century egg - check
Fugu (potentially lethal Japanese blowfish) - not tried, no problem, but why risk it?
Balut - not tried, would likely struggle in boiled form
Haggis - check - you kidding? What is daring here?
Tiet Canh (raw duck blood soup) - not tried - taste wise, no problem, but good chance to catch a stomach bug!
Suckling pig - check - not daring at all. We should include embryos.
Hakarl - rotten shark (Iceland) - not tried, no issue here, I think, I would call it "fermented". Have you been to Korea?
Birds nest soup - not tried - no issue
Alligator - check - meh ...
Fried brains - check - see above

Definitely buy one for the next party and tell everyone you brought a special treat for dessert! If there are leftovers, put some in a milk shake or make ice cream. That's where it shows its best side. It has a real creamy / cheese component that goes good with a dairy dessert.

A coworker of mine bought one and put it in his trunk to thaw it out. His car was NOT the one to take for lunch for months.

In Singapore it is illegal to bring Durian onto the MRT (tram system) and most places of work also do not allow it to be brought on site.
