When did they started blipping out "God" on TV?

I was watching a bit of TV this afternoon and notice the "Oh My God" or anything that has the word God in it was blipped put. But b!tch or many other bad words are OK to air. I suppose this is the new America? Now, I am not religious and really don't care, but found it strange and wanted to see if any of you noticed it.

VaSteve 04-13-2014 06:00 PM

If followed by "Damn" in the original movie, it's been like that a while.

look 171 04-13-2014 06:00 PM

no, no damn

Being Christian is no longer pc. Sorry, but we are quickly approaching minority. Sad times.

ossiblue 04-14-2014 07:16 AM

Before anyone jumps all over this as some kind of pc change, it would help to know the exact program being watched, channel it was on, and the time of day. Honestly, I have not experienced anything of the sort. Not saying it didn't happen, but it seems to be an aberration.

BTW, just for context, as a long ago TV watcher, it was much more common to delete the word " God" from programming due to fear of using His name in vain, not out of fear of offending non-religious viewers.

I sometimes edit movies for networks and I've never had to do that.

And this is coming from someone currently editing out all mentions of the word s--- and ball grabbing scenes out of Honeymoon in Vegas.

Why are the fart sounds edited out from "Blazing Saddles"?

+1

At my granddaughter's school they are asking parents to try to get their girls out of the habit of saying, "Oh My God," all the time. The phrase prefaces nearly every sentence among these 12-13 year old girls. "Oh My God that's a cute sweater," "Oh My God my teacher's mean." It's an epidemic. This may be part of that effort.

That really got me PO'd. I rented a DVD and the bean scene was bleeped, as well as all the funny and appropriate, I think, uses of the N-word. Where can one get an uncut version?

VaSteve 04-14-2014 09:18 AM

Weird did you get a bootleg DVD? I heard once that one of the big church networks had different versions of movies for rent with very slight edits... sounds like you got the TV version though.

More than likely it was xtians who demanded the edit.

Censorship only benefits the censors.

Good luck with that.

I bought the DVD of that long ago. It hase the full version. I have a copy of it on my cell phone.

If you got a version all cut up it must be the broadcast TV version. It would be a 10 minute movie if you edited out all the racial slurs and off color jokes.

Tervuren 04-14-2014 11:09 AM

I don't understand why its not ok to say **** and it is ok to say crap.

Ok - yeah, the Norman's conquered England and **** is Germanic rather than norman/french. But...this the USA, made up of many cultures, languages, and peoples? Why is this still carrying over from medieval times?

Joe Bob 04-14-2014 11:11 AM

Crap is short for Crapper. Thomas Crapper made a commode.

I actually just watched Blazing Saddles last night on youtube. ($2.99 rental)
It seemed to be uncut.

I wasn't sure what channel it was, but it was regular TV. It was a movie about a cop who won a lottery who shared wit with a waitress. Nicolas Cage and Brigid Fonda. I was watching bits and pieces of it(due to Bridge Fonda), so I was unsure that it was done throughout the movie but it was removed a few times that I noticed?

Well Christianity is no longer acceptable as the mainstay religion is the U.S. Welcome to the Islamification of the Western World.

DaveE 04-15-2014 07:21 AM

It hasn't reached here yet. I'm paying for at least 7 Christian/Catholic TV stations on my cable system. No Islamic stations.
