Another Colt...
Well, after eight months of waiting, the 4 3/4" Peacemaker I've had on order finally arrived. I have now rounded out my collection of brand new third generation Colts that have been finished by Doug Turnbull. For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Mr. Turnbull has earned a reputation for his exquisite color case hardening and bluing - to the degree that Colt now entrusts him with the finishing of all new Peacemakers.
The case colors and bluing now provided on new Colts is simply the best I have ever seen. When they first caught my eye, I immediately decided I needed one... or three... It has taken two years to find an example of each traditional barrel length - 7 1/2" (original army issue), 5 1/2" (original artillery crew issue), and now 4 3/4" (the "civilian" length, as originally ordered by one Bat Masterson). Here is the latest: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397603792.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397603817.jpg Family photo: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397603856.jpg I can't wait to get it to the range and see how it shoots. The other two, on top of being very pretty, have both proven to be fantastic shooters with all of my standard .45 Colt loads. Like I've said before, for those of us that love the old thumbusters, we are truly living in the best of times... |
Wow, those are gorgeous!
Another 5 star here. |
Wow!
There is an old saying among collectors that "If you want to make money collecting something, collect Colts and old Fords". Am I correct in assuming
that all three are chambered for the 45 Long Colt cartridge? Very, very nice! Quote:

Beautiful looking guns there Jeff. What a work of art that hot oil/case hardening is.

Those triggers are a work of art. Wow.

Yes, they are all chambered in the venerable old .45 Colt, my all-time favorite revolver caliber. This is a truly versatile chambering. While the relatively small Peacemaker is limited to standard pressure loads (a 250 grain bullet at about 900 fps), modern Rugers and such are capable of launching 300 to 320 grain bullets at all of 1,300 fps. I much prefer the original loads, and have found them to be entirely adequate for deer hunting and other such use.
It's really hard to over state the quality of these newest Colts. The photos really don't do them justice - they just "pop" in real life, the colors are just so vibrant and the blueing appears so deep it's almost like you are looking right "through" them. Function is every bit the equal of finish, with the smoothest, crispest actions I've ever seen in a Colt. Anyone who is a fan of the Peacemaker really does owe it to themselves to check out Colt's latest - they really are getting it right once again. |
Nice SAAs (I don't call 'em Peacemakers)

I covet the 4.75" Jeff.
