San Francisco couple of questions

#1
I'm going to be in San Fran in May, the missus is coming and after my work stuff, we are thinking about staying a few more days as a mini vacation. She found Muir Woods and thought it might be nice to stay somewhere near that, our of the city in or near the park that is nice and romantic. We found a couple of places that sounded like they might be nice (the Mountain Home Inn and the Pelican Inn), but they each had some less than great reviews online.

Anyone have any places that they recommend that are nice and also in a picturesque area?

#2
I'm also curious about any must try restaurants in downtown San Fran? How about good sushi?

the greatest sushi in san francisco is kinda unnamed..and probably gonna be closed..hahah..the locals just describe it as that place in the richmond. (its called TEKKA)..place only fits 11 people. they do parties of two..and two seatings only..cash only. no rolls, no hand rolls, no party boats..

AWESOME sushi is YUME in alameda. the place is unbeliivable. they changed the format. only parties of TWO..and they do two seatings only. you know you are getting near, when you see people speed walking for no apparent reason..they are jockeying for position in line. just a guy with his angry wife working the place. the sushi is sooo good. kinda expensive, but worth it. also no rolls, etc.

I assume you mean the only options are Nigiri or Sashimi? That's fine. That's pretty much the only thing that the missus and I eat.

I'll keep those in mind, thanks.

I have heard nice things about this place.
Muir woods is very popular parking can be a challenge getting there early is good.
The cliff house at lands end also has a nice restaurant.

Take the Ferry to Sausalito and go to Sushi-Ran. Ichi Sushi in SF is well-known, just moved. I have a long list of favorite restaurants in SF (most of whom carry our wine): Frances, Salt House, Quince, Perbacco, Cotagna, Anchor & Hope, RN74, Spruce, Farallon, Benu, A16, La Folie, Michael Mina, Piperade, Saison, Coi, etc. -> let me know what food you like and I'll guide you.

As to where to stay, depends on what kind of neighborhood you want to wake up in. Most of the more interesting ones don't have hotels. Lots of touristy stuff to avoid in SF.

The Pelican Inn is very picturesque, very much like a British pub in the country. (Good name, too.) I've never stayed there, so I have no idea how their rooms are. But it seems like a very nice place to stay. Another picturesque place is Inverness. Eat at Vladimir's and stay at 10 Inverness Way. My wife and I have done that and enjoyed it very much.
