Another Rattle Can Refurb:
Had this very nice ( Stiffle) very heavy polished brass lamp that screamed 1980's (mainly because that's when we bought it). Now tarnished and looking a bit shabby. Wife mentioned giving it to Goodwill and buying a new lamp - all I saw was $$$.
Spent an hour or so disassembling and wet sanding, a couple of light coats of primer followed by several light coats of Rustoleum Rubbed Bronze rattle can and a new shade and voila, a refurbed lamp the wife loves all for a couple hours of labor and $10 worth of paint: before: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397746910.jpg after: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397747098.jpg |
Well done, Jack, well done!

Nice!

Nice update on the lamp. Really like the stacking bookcases.

Do you have a fking clue as to what that old Stiffle Floor lamp is worth?
BTW, they don't scream 1980's...they are basically a classic design that has a timeless quality. Stiffle became big after WW2. I always thought of them as a Colonial Revival, Regency, French Empire type O thing...??? The original Stiffle co went outa biz in 2000 and has been resurrected with mfg in China...the problem as with so many US mfgs is that they could not compete on price... Anyway have a nice older tall Stiffle French style table lamp, a newer Chinese made floor lamp and a Chinese twin candle stick type all for about $35.00. All bought on the cheap at Thrifts.. Your lamp is worth around 1000. |
Well. It used to be.

It looks great, nice job!

Given that, we still have 2 matching sets of Stiffle brass table lamps and 2 torchierre brass floor lamps that are in almost perfection condition and these definitely will not be getting repainted.. |
