No, the 919 obviously follows the rules, rules set up to make things more challenging and often at odds with natural forces in lieu of being in concert with them.

The 917 predates much of the ridiculousness found in present day rules.

Recall that in the early 1900's Porsche's designs featuring all wheel drive electric hub cars were banned because they had an "unfair advantage" over the competition.

Same thing again happened at Indy with 4WD and turbine, BANNED.

Legislated meritocracy to level out the competition and to make things more even is the product of race rules.

part of the problem is just perception based on the two paint schemes I first saw, the crazy zebra and the dmg mori/Porsche Intelligent Performance.

Both detract from the car's naturally harsh aesthetics rather than soften or accent them.

The Martini car already looks better and I'm sure more will come, + and -.

I like it in general but think it's just a stepping stone in the marriage of engineering and design.
