Czech deer still avoid Iron Curtain (BBC)

Even though the electric fence has been gone for 25 years & the lifespan of a deer is around 15 years, herds on both sides of the Czech-German border still do not intermingle & stick to their own sides.

That is amazing. One would think a buck smelling a doe would cross the barrier. Around here they seem to go loco during the rut.

I used to patrol the inter-German border. Going near the old border still kinda wierds me out.

Maybe it's one of those "You had to be there" type of things...

This is a few meters inside Austria, having just crossed from the Czech Rep. I was disappointed to see no sign at all of the former border. It was completely invisible.

This is the former inner-German border and it is still pretty recognizable, though this was near a museum on the former border.
