Need help IDing a kit car

Guy runs a local ad advertising a "Porsche 1600" so I go look at it and took a bunch of pictures.

I Looked for kit cars called "Python", other than company in Oz I couldn't find any references.

I'm thinking early VW platform is what it is built on......

VW chassis.

Those old tires might be worth more than the car to a Concours freak.

Interesting, looks like a "non-bondo" car.

What he told me about the car.....his sister bought a house from a estate sale and the car was in the garage (owner had died two years before). The neibour said he thought the car came from California. There is no paperwork or serial number (could be found) on the car.

I like it. Sort of an XKE Stingray blend.

That's kind of interesting in an odd sort of way. It's a mash up of a lot of classic style que's. Maybe it's the low profile throwing off the proportions but the wheelbase looks too long for a VW tub unless it was stretched.

Gauges are 356 ... but not C/SC (redline starts too early on tach)

In Photo 5 there is an emblem above the PYTHON lettering - appears to be shaped similar to a maple leaf. I wonder if the Forgotten Fibreglass guy was on to something when he suggested British build, but possibly Canadian.

As stated, Gauges look 356 as does the front and rear lids, plus possibly the gas tank. Rims too. Beyond that am not if I see a lot of Porsche showing through.

VW chassis, MGB windshield, no Porsche content other than possibly the gauges. I realize tastes are subjective but it looks (to me) as clumsy and amateurish as most of the kit cars of it's era.
regards,
Phil
