Universal studios but don!t take one of the tours to get there it's stupid long day

My vote is for Legoland, also the San Diego Zoo and Safari park are nice. If you are going to Legoland and like German food try out Tip-Top meats http://www.tiptopmeats.com/ I go there for lunch pretty often.

Though I'm mostly on-board with Todd re the house of mouse - if your kid has never been then most definitely go. Be ready for long lines (of course) and super spendy food and sodas (of course).

Legoland would be perfect for your son - probably more fun than Disney. After the park closes and you're in the mood for relaxing to a good beer and food visit Karl Strauss brewery which is on the road out of the Legoland parking lot.

San Diego zoo is worth the trip South and for the young kids much more rewarding than the Wild Animal Park.

There is also Sea World - lots of rides and entertainment beyond blackfish. If your son likes military stuff then the USS Midway tour is outstanding as well.

Have fun!

Legoland rocks. Find the dude sitting on the throne in Miniland. My son laughed for days.

Honestly, I am bummed my kids are too old for Legoland. Prefer it to Disneyland any day. Now we buy passes to Magic Mountain and do the rollercoasters :--)

Oh, and Legoland is near some really good breweries, if you get the chance and enjoy that kind of thing.

The San Diego Zoo Safari park (or whatever it's called now) is fun and not too far from Legoland and close to Stone Brewery.

I am going to the Enchanted Kingdom toward the end of June. Plan to go to Sandy Eggo and see the zoo, do some other stuff too. You go for the kids, not the adults.

Legoland is near good breweries and German food? Sold!

nostatic 05-02-2014 02:40 PM

San Diego has become the microbrew capital of the country - or at least one of them. Karl Stauss is the old guard, and there evidently are a ton of new ones most everywhere. At least so says my buddy who still lives down in SD. I don't get down there much these days, and I don't really drink beer so I'm not the best current frame of reference.

If your wife likes outlet malls. There's one by legoland. Can't miss it off the 5

Legoland is near good breweries and German food and shopping? Doubly sold!

nostatic 05-02-2014 03:32 PM

Did we mention the local hookers and blow?

cantdrv55 05-02-2014 04:12 PM

I'm looking at real estate near Legoland now.

The time we stayed at that Beach Terrace Inn, we had dinner at a local downtown Carlsbad pizza joint. It was packed and had a ton of microbrews on tap. Can't recall the name, but looking at Yahoo maps it looks like it was probably Pizza Port.

If you are into WWII history, maybe your son would like to see some really big guns.
Go visit the USS Iowa BB-61 battleship at the LA waterfront

The new Pizza Port is within a couple of miles of Legoland. It's like a brewery with a pizza joint in it.

mskochen 05-05-2014 10:00 AM

I agree, Pizza Port is great! My kids really liked the environment, and the pizza is good too.

Also, we had a great time at the San Diego Botanic Garden in Enchinitas. Lots of different areas to explore, and they have an awesome treehouse and kid's play area. We spent hours just running around there.

The discovery science museum is about 5 miles south of dismal-land on the 5 fwy.
My son and I have been there dozens of times, he loves it and would rather go there than mickey--ville anytime. It's designed to teach kids with hands-on experiements.
Might wanna check ahead to see what exibits and events they're featuring etc.

it's open 10 to 5 daily, the typical trip (for us) lasts about 4 hours.
and it's affordable.

General Admission
Children (ages 3-14): $12.95
Adults (ages 15+): $15.95
Seniors (ages 62+): $12.95
Parking: $4.00

That's cheaper than going to the movies. did I mention they have movies there included in the price of admission?
