What's up with the spambot?

Everyday, a spambot with a jumble of letters for a username and 8 total posts pulls one line out of a thread and posts it with a happy face at the end.
WTF is the purpose of this?

The emoticon at the end is linked from off site.

Helps search engine optimization / ranking for the linked site.

Sleazy way to help SEO.

I haven't seen a linked site with the postings though.
Weird.

The link is a embedded in the smiley.

It's not one of the forum generated emoticons.

Basically a low tech tracking pixel.

One of the metrics used in search engine rankings is how often your site is linked to from others and the relevance of those others to your site.

Last time I checked the link on his emoticon it was insurance related. Cars and insurance have high relevance.

So when the search engines scour a site and find links with high relevance it adds to that links search rank.

Think of it as stuffing the ballot box.

Oh OK.
For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what they were trying to achieve.

I had to google SEO btw...

Thanks!

Anybody know of a way to find this asswipe and pull his arms from their sockets so he cannot type anymore? Like a weed in the middle of my yard, this guy has been annoying me for weeks.
