I close on my house this Friday
I am pretty excited except that I keep thinking to myself that I am now a slave to job/bank/house and tied down to everything forever.
But I will finally get the 911 up to MN and the garage is sweet man.

....I remember walking into my first purchase after closing...sitting down in the middle of the empty room and thinking...WTF have I just done ? No regrets 20+ years later...play yer cards right (become debt free w/ financial independence in mind), and it CAN become one of the best things you've ever done!!! Congrats Kyle!!!

Get off my lawn!

I remember my first morning at my new house. Boxes were everywhere, not was really put away and I looked around in MY NEW HOUSE. I found the amortization table the real estate agent had given me.
![]() This was back in the "good ol days" when my 12.5% mortgage was a great bargain. I figured after a few more loan payments I would own the bathroom door. Enjoy your new house.

Unless your housing was free, you're no more tied down than you were. You can enjoy it or feel trapped, it's your decision. But now, those former rent payments are building equity one bathroom door at a time. Congratulations.

Oh yea, I remember the day I closed on this old farm.....thinking I'll never get this mortage paid off. Now 18 years later....what was the mortage money now goes into repairs. It's a never ending pay out. I'm ready for a doublewide out in the woods with a couple of acres. The kids are grown and gone, I'm old and no need to impress myself or anybody else. Enjoy it while your young Kyle and best of luck!

Think of it as renting money instead of renting real estate, but the real estate keeps going up, and the rent keeps going down.
But buying a first house can be a bit unsettling, for a while. Last edited by Rinty; 05-13-2014 at 11:55 AM.. |

Congratulations Kyle! It may seem daunting at first but home ownership is very rewarding, especially at tax time
