G'day!

Two car commercials.
First GM with the "work-a-holic" ad......then Ford counters with "save the planet" ad. Why do humans always feel the need to pick sides....aka choose one over the other. Intolerance is one of the biggest problems in our world. I like BOTH ads...BOTH philosophies.....and appreciate that BOTH of these humans are following their hearts. There is no right or wrong. There is only respect for others to follow their hearts....and their dreams...and do what they feel is right for THEM. ![]() ![]()

I bought a Miata because I wanted a cheap reliable sports car with mountains of aftermarket parts available.
As you may or may not know the Miata has a reputations for being a "girly" car (putting it nicely). But it is nothing more or less than a small, light, four cylinder sports car much in the tradition of the older Italian, English, and German sports cars. Hanging out with some Miata guys it is obvious some of them are overcompensating for the perceived "image" of the Miata owner... however, at the end of the day, a Miata is just a bucket of bolts like any other car.

I like both ads. The actor in the Caddy ad pulls it off really well, I think.
I'm shocked that both ads exist since one is almost certainly a copy of the other. I'm guessing that enough was changed to allow one to copy the other, or maybe they are calling it satire or something.

When the seller "polarizes" the viewer with the intention of gaining an emotional response...that's how the masses are duped. Even if you get a 40% of market share regardless if the product is shyte, they got their money.
REACT...don't think is how the advertisement game is played. If given time to actually contemplate the necessity of what your buying, your MUCH less likely to make the 'impluse-purchase' They have woman wired almost from birth on this...feed them insecurities from the time they are little girls, and they'll spend a lifetime trying to gain affirmation.

The Caddy commercial is pure genius and they pulled it off perfectly. It screams own a Caddy and you can be like this: confident, successful, stylish. Ford knew that they had to come up with something so they played off the first ad to get you to listen to theirs. It also worked perfectly because here we are looking at and talking about the Ford ad. In advertising, its all about watching the ad. You get double bonus points if you talk about it to others. I admire the creative genius of both ad companies.

It's not about intolerance or taking sides. It is about selling a product. Both GM and ford build cars that could be marketed to tree huggers or workaholics.

Sorry for the confusion.....
The intolerance I referred to has nothing to do with the videos......I was talking about the humans who viewed them....and felt they had to take one side or the other. Check out the comments under each video and see for yourself....

I know...not always easy to digest a viewpoint which doesn't validate our own.

Yeah, there is no right or wrong. Ever. It's OK to do anything, as long as you have a rationale, and it sounds reasonable. Well, I do have some respect for the ''I'm OK, You're OK'' philosophy, but there may actually be more to it than that. In a world where science and technology create problems that only science and technology can solve, the amounts of things we use up, discard, or just plain flush into the air and oceans just might matter. In the end, do our collective philosophies constitute part of a nutritious breakfast for our planet ? Is WGAF a philosophy ? Time will tell. |

It doesn't matter why things appeal to people. Advertising is an art of coercion. They want you to think you are smarter and better than the person who buys the other product. Looks like it is working. It is just coercion. There is no real intolerance. Stop believing what they want you to believe.

Those videos were posted here already, a few weeks back. Great comeback! I like both the ads.
