I close on my house this Friday

I am pretty excited except that I keep thinking to myself that I am now a slave to job/bank/house and tied down to everything forever.

But I will finally get the 911 up to MN and the garage is sweet man.

:)

Ha, don't sweat it. I thought like this too, but after 12 months it really doesn't feel like such a tragedy. I'm thinking you made a very smart move.

:D ....I remember walking into my first purchase after closing...sitting down in the middle of the empty room and thinking...WTF have I just done ? No regrets 20+ years later...play yer cards right (become debt free w/ financial independence in mind), and it CAN become one of the best things you've ever done!!! Congrats Kyle!!!

I remember my first morning at my new house. Boxes were everywhere, not was really put away and I looked around in MY NEW HOUSE. I found the amortization table the real estate agent had given me.

This was back in the "good ol days" when my 12.5% mortgage was a great bargain. I figured after a few more loan payments I would own the bathroom door.

Enjoy your new house.

Congratulations Kyle! I remember going to the Maplewood Mall when I was young.

Congrats Kyle!

Unless your housing was free, you're no more tied down than you were. You can enjoy it or feel trapped, it's your decision. But now, those former rent payments are building equity one bathroom door at a time. Congratulations.

Nice! Your landlord might become a pia though. "Fix this, change that".:D

slakjaw 05-13-2014 06:29 AM

There is nothing compared to owning your own dirt.
Congrats.

vash 05-13-2014 07:49 AM

awesome!!

now you can throw open all the doors and windows, leave all the lights on..and pee in the backyard!!

king of your domain.

3 months..it feels normal after three months.

Oh yea, I remember the day I closed on this old farm.....thinking I'll never get this mortage paid off. Now 18 years later....what was the mortage money now goes into repairs. It's a never ending pay out. I'm ready for a doublewide out in the woods with a couple of acres. The kids are grown and gone, I'm old and no need to impress myself or anybody else. Enjoy it while your young Kyle and best of luck!

Rinty 05-13-2014 08:42 AM

Think of it as renting money instead of renting real estate, but the real estate keeps going up, and the rent keeps going down.

But buying a first house can be a bit unsettling, for a while.

craigster59 05-13-2014 08:53 AM

Congratulations Kyle! It may seem daunting at first but home ownership is very rewarding, especially at tax time ;)

GH85Carrera 05-13-2014 08:54 AM

But NOT at property tax time!
