the crunchy granola female, singer-songwriter.
excuse my thread title..i dont know if they eat granola..or hell, even if they write their own songs. (in summary..trying to be funny in title...no offense to granola)
but my musical taste has picked up a new genre. on top of hard classic rock, to rap..i am digging the female singer songwriter. kinda peaceful singing. again, i think they write the music..which adds to the experience. i cant even blame my wife. i just radio channel surf and i run across ladies on pianos and guitars..singing into a mic. sara barailles, some chick named Ingrid..another woman named, Lambert. i blame my ever lengthening commute...i spend a lot of time listening to radio/music. there is some good music out there!! stuff i kinda ignored. now where is my Lilith Fair t-shirt?

There is an angry lesbian component there that you're not picking up on. might kill the vibe for you when you recognize it.

It's because you are tired of the same 40 tunes that get airplay.
There is a **** ton of talent out there that does to get exposure from corporate radio. Couple of years ago replaced the battery in the Mazda, had to reset the station presets. Started scanning and hit this station WKXT, listener sponsored. They were playing good stuff so I set it. Kept listening and listening and listening. My wife gets in the car and she is digging it as well. Since that first day I have not set another preset and it's also the only station set in the other cars. Great variety of bands you know, not just the popular stuff but obscure as well plus unknown bands as well as local artists. You have to deal with the DJ's who have that public access style and the occasional pledge drives but it's tolerable because I've discovered so much good new stuff. They have a live stream. Playlists to get an idea of the mix. KXT Playlists | KXT 91.7

Joni Mitchell covers so much ground you almost don't need anyone else. That said, Victoria Williams is a favorite. The "Loose" album is spectacular. Horns ftw:

You have to use some imagination. Think of Tangerine Dream "Liquid Plejades" as a speed metal cover. |

[QUOTE=stomachmonkey;8064318]They are all great but to Cliff's point there is a whole new generation of singer songwriters out there.
I totally agree! One minor problem for me, it's hard sifting through and finding music I like because once someone is popular,(think Fiona Apple or Sarah McLaughlin), the record companies make the decison based on risk that anything too different is not worth A&R money. Therefore I stay with what I know pretty much. Now, where's my cardigan! Get off my lawn! Thanks for the videos! (Sam, there's something cathartic about a pleasing melody and great lyrics interpreted through a female voice. You should really find a siren of your own. It really helps calm the nerves.) ![]()

Scan around your dial for either a local college station or a listener supported station. WKXT is such a great blend of artists I know and new stuff that I have no reason to switch the station. In two years I've heard Zappa more times on that station than in 30 years of listening to corporate radio.

I love this rendition.
I like it better than the original, kinda like I prefer the Cowboy Junkies rendition of Sweet Jane to Lou Reeds.
