This country has, compared to other developed countries, a low skilled work force and add the explosion of the Information Age. You have a disaster where wages have been stagnant for decades. Some people cannot make it out.
It's easy to type stupid stuff that you can't back up because it cannot be backed. |

I say get rid of minimum wage all together. Free markets work perfectly and surely an fair equilibrium price for low tier labor will emerge. Let them eat cake anyways.....
Sarcasm detector should be registering I don't dare go into parf. It seems like everybody has forgotten about shades of grey in the universe.

Oh the horror! We will have to eat real food!!!
(I was lazy and ate McDonalds for lunch today, lest you judge me as some liberal granola muncher)... But seriously, if all fast food disappeared tomorrow I'm pretty sure we would all survive.

I eat crap food periodically unfortunatley
Every now and again I run into a fastfood worker that I can tell takes great pride in their work. It is a rarity, but i have tremendous respect for sombody who will bust ass and be courteous for 8$ an hour. I know plenty of 6 figure office guys who could learn something from these people.

Nothing to do with fast food, the workers will still need employment.

When I worked at minimum wage jobs, I never had just one of them. I saved my money, studied hard and lived like a pauper for 10 years. I ate a lot of ramen noodles and bought used tires. When I finished my residency, I lived in a crappy little 700 square foot apartment. When my hooptie car crapped out, I bought a second hand Nissan, rather than a Porsche or BMW as so many of my contemporaries did. Deferred gratification, what a concept.

Screw them, fast food jobs used to be for teenagers. NOW you have to speak a foreign language and be from the same rural village the rest of the workers, related to the manager are from.......they come over, drop an "anchor child" and hope for amnesty.

What part of my "opinion" are you referring to?
Oh, and good for you for being intelligent and ambitious. I am as well but I don't compare myself to an adult with a 2nd or 3rd grade education in order to feel better about myself. I'd love to hear an actual argument to the points that I've made. Obviously it'd be a shame to turn this into a political discussion but tough to ignore the obvious. Quote:

And who pays for that education, medical care, and abortion clinics?

Tax payers will pay for everyone under a certain income bracket but wouldn't it be better if we provided the opportunity for abortions, then education to those that are born and medical care outside of the ER (used as a family practice)? Just wondering what your point is since the answer to your question is obvious. |

Remove the political aspect and take a stab at an answer.

The illegals at the local HD reportedly are able to get $15/hour or more and they don't speak much English, and you haven't got a clue who they are, or where they are from. Getting much better than minimum wage doesn't seem to be a problem for them. BTW, I don't hire them.

So? More efficient for me, the customer. Instead of waiting for an employee to refill my drink as they tend to other customers, I just walk up to the fountain and do it myself.

Dave, your point is well taken, but they do it to save them money first. As you point out, it also frees their employee to sell more stuff to other people faster. And to boot, customers, like you, see it as a plus. Not saying their is anything wrong with the whole business model, but they did it to benefit themselves first, and you if that happens to workout, second.

I bet corporate saw both sides as a win/win. Save a bit of money, efficiency to take orders goes up and the customer saves a few minutes by refilling themselves.

They must have failed math or never had the opportunity to go to school? To top it off, they do not carry gravel but only paint and do plumbing. Plumbing? Yeah right. I drove off and waited until Monday for my men to finish up. they could have earned 60 bucks for the rest of the day, instead they stood there in the heat and melt and waste their lives away. I never use them on client's homes. Hell no. Is it up to 15 bucks not? |

Hey Rusty914,
You seem to whip your big dick around with lots of questions. How about some answers or solutions? |
