How to clean up my Windows Vista

Question for the brain trust....

I have Windows Vista on a 4 year old desktop.

I'd like to go in and get rid of the garbage and clean things up.

I used to have a disc I could use to do this but haven't used it since before the XP days.

Any pointers on the best approach to do a tuneup on my system would be appreciated.

It's working fine, BTW - no real issues, thankfully.

BTW I'm aware of the program uninstall feature and have used it some but I know there is some junk collected in here that needs addressing.

TIA!

I'd start with a free download of CCleaner:

Download CCleaner | PCWorld

Only download from a trusted site, some will cause you headaches/change your toolbars, etc....

Downloading from CNET as I type this.....will let you know what happens.

Step 1: Bomb Vista into the stone ages

Step 2: Install Linux OS of your flavor

Step 3: Enjoy faster computer. :D

Actually Sid it's always been pretty fast - and I just did the ccleaner download and it's working just fine....maybe a little faster. Some of that was deleting the same stuff you always delete when cleaning but some of it was the other misc crap you accumulate.

I'm good to go - thanks again Bob.

Funny. I am typing on a POS Vista second hand laptop. It was a complete turd with vista. Linux install and now I am a happy man! First time. Mostly painless except the wireless driver took a little brain power. Probably am going to do another ancient desktop to linux as well. It seems to work better.

Thank you Radioactive!

Just ran the Junkware removal program and it took out some garbage and clutter.

Be sure to use the registry tool in CCleaner if you haven't already.

I used Vista with CCleaner and Firefox and never had a problem, until I removed the cpu to thinking I'd clean the heat sink.
