Word Lens app
 

This is one of the neatest uses of technology that I have experienced in quite some time.

On Friday, Google finalized their acquisition of Quest Visual. Quest has an app called Word Lens that is available for iPhone, Android & Google Glass. Word Lens translates printed words from one language to another with your smartphone's video camera, in real time.

I watched the video posted below and was a little skeptical about their demo. So, I installed the app on my Android phone and tried it out. I was very impressed. IRL, the translation was not always as smooth as what is presented in the demo, but it was not far off. I could see how this would be a great app for Google Glass

That is cool. It would be great to use on vacation in a foreign country.

It works really well. We're using it in Rio right now. It actually works even better than this image implies.
