This is how you make your granddaughters smile !!

Oldest granddaughter just received her masters degree from U. of Houston.

Second oldest just graduated summa cum laude from UT - San Antonio with a math major.

Both were at the house this weekend where we handed them their graduation present: the usual envelope with the card which usually has money in it.

Inside we just put a blank check and a note congratulating them and telling them how proud we were of them and to help get them off to a good start in their new life we would pay off all their college loans.

Neither of their parents were in any position to help them financially through college so they both applied for every grant, scholarship they might qualify for, worked (waitresses) and took out loans to get through.

Let me assure you, that will bring out the biggest smile you will probably ever see.

Wow....... That's awesome that you are in the position to do that for them. ..... They sound like they worked their arses off to get through it :)

I bet it made grandma and grandpa smile big as well.

It is nice you have the ability to do that for them. It is great you helped produce two educated young ladies that learned to work and better themselves. Congrats to all of ya.

holy crap, that is fantastic

It is awesome that you are well off enough to do that. I think that you did them even more of a service than just agreeing to pay for their school from the start.

I got my business degree later in life from UT austin. Fantastic campus

That is exactly why we did it that way. Wife and I both had to work our way through school and felt they would appreciate it much more if they had some sweat equity in it. Between grants, scholarships, their working, going to state schools and finishing their basic degrees in 4 years the loans are no where near some of the horror stories you read about... I don't see a Cayman S in my immediate future but the ROI on the granddaughters is by far the best investment one can make.

and you shoulda seen their smiles... they had no idea that was coming.
