https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/million-dollar-vintage-mercedes-gullwing-destroyed-during-mille-miglia-190453299.html Hopefully no knockers were injured in the crash. It's hard to look at this picture of a destroyed Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, worth north of a million dollars, and not cringe. Driven by Konstantin Sixt, namesake of Europe's Sixt rental-car company, the Benz was competing in the annual Mille Miglia vintage car rally through Italy, before it was headbutted by a BMW 1-Series. |
The risk you take on the open road...
{ If a car is worth a million dollars, wouldn't you restore it no matter how badly damaged?} |
I'm sure it will be restored good as new. $1M buys a lot of parts and restoration hours.
|
I wonder if in Italy you can get insurance coverage for racing like that?
|
Dang shame.
Real question is will the insurance company pay up? Not like someone running a rally in a million 4 car needs insurance $$...but, just sayin'. |
Old saying:
if you can't afford to push it off a cliff, don't take it on a race track. |
Maybe this recent thread and about BMW drivers explains it

That will definitely not buff-out.
|
The driver is lucky to have survived that...
|
After an extensive search, local authorities have the bmw that head butted the beautiful gullwing.

My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.
