I wanna see the business end as to how they are linked to the drivetrain

Mrmerlin 05-23-2014 04:57 AM

I am gonna guess that the drive from one engine is sent via the V belt drive

Agreed. While it's hard to decipher through the rust and corrosion in those pictures, it doesn't look like any mechanical connection on the flywheel side.

The lower motor mounted up just like any other vw/Porsche motor. The upper is connected upside down and brackets (see photo) to hold ti together. There is no flywheel for the upper motor. I asked the guy who built it why no flywheel fro th upper motor and he said if you build it right you don't need one! This photo shows the back side of the motors. The intake had a double barrel carb. One barrel was for one motor and the other barrel was for the other one.

Here is whats under the valve cover on the upside down motor. Baffles to keep the oil moving in the right way? just crazy.

I think this photo is actually upside down.

There might be a bit missing on the upper main seal but these motors have roller crank bearings and are over 1800cc each with single port heads! LOL!

So it's an H-8, ala BRM's H-16, right?

82 SC 05-23-2014 09:40 AM

I call it a I 8 but it can be what ever anyone wants it to be. The motor has over 70k miles on it and over heated. Hopefully it is just the heads. The guy that built it said don't crack the case!
He also said there is nothing original on this motor except the lower distributor.
