We as a family have recently picked up scuba diving. Love it - but all our dives have been in Hawaii
 I doubt I would enjoy the murky conditions in the video.

you're going to hate diving in socal, cold and if the vis is 40 feet you're lucky, try cozumel

It's cold alright here in SoCal. But with the right wetsuit it can be an awesome and comfortable experience. Near the islands the visibility can be 100 feet easily. All kinds of fish and lobsters, and all inside gigantic kelp forests. Best to be enjoyed by boat, either commercial diving boat with air compressor on board or private boats.
