Lets say you could go on a life support type device and plug into a virtual reality simulation that you could not tell apart from reality. All the neural links matched your senses to the point that they were totally indistinguishable from the real deal. A computer allowed randomness but with a certain amount of training you could begin to manipulate your reality and make goals and dreams come true...but the program would throw serious random curveballs from time to time when it sensed you were getting too comfy or bored.

Do I inherit billions of dollars with annuity that has a nice yearly payment of interest to me? Because I surely don't want to work forever.

I'd have to think about it before I could make up my mind. But, what you are describing is probably the way some things will be in the future. Think space travel where it will take a long time to transit, or for when freight from one place to another takes place. If it isn't completely controlled by computer (which it probably will be) they may hook a human or parts of one up to the control mechanism. Plus when the time comes, we could just enter a virtual reality. No body parts will be needed. Either way just think about how afraid you would be of being deleted.

I wouldn't do it. You do your time and move on.

If we dont end up destroying ourselves over resources, there will be fusion of human and computer. Eventually, we won't need bodies anymore.

I don't want to be around forever stuck on Earth. The idea of being consciously one with the Universe is kinda cool though.

You wouldn't need one in the Docs "reality".

But yes it's like the concept behind the Matrix but it's not and never will be real.
It won't feel real either and your free will and all that will be gone.

I'm not sure I'd choose it but in the distant future you may not get to choose.
