Not a Ford fan (or much of a motor head at all unless it is German, air cooled, and 4 cylinders) but the technology behind all of this is fascinating.

The slashdot comments are well worth reading as well.

One German company builds almost all the electric power steering racks in the world.

They are mechanically simple, but very complicated on the electronics and software side.
