Xk 6?

anyone know anything about those damn things? My BIL found a 91 XK6 and want to buy it badly. Personally, I hate those damn things. How reliable are they? I can see electrical nightmare like the 928, or worst? I think I buy a 91 Camry before I buy that thing. It has 112,000 miles. It belonged to some doctor and it sat under a carport for the some time.

Xk6?

Could you mean XJ6? or is it an XKE 6 cylinder? Makes a big difference.

I love Jags....I truly do......but you need to kick your bro in the balls. My first Jag, a 94 XJ, managed to have not one, not two, but THREE trunk fires because of electronics...

Once you get out of Lucas era, they aren't horrible. If it weren't for moron techs at the dealer, my 04 would have been relatively problem free.

that's an XJ6...and if you consider it disposable, $3500 might not be bad. My '95 XJR-6 was $3500...and I bought it with the assumption I would throw it away. I put 70K trouble free miles on it, and sold it 2 years later for $4500.

too bad it isn't a XKE.

I think he's going to buy this thing. What are some of the thing to look out for. He doesn't know anything about cars, except his folks back home (Calgary)has lux-o-boats all their lives so he wants one.

The Ford Motor Company bought Jaguar in about 1988 or 1989 and continued to own that company until the big economic collapse of 2008. During the 20 years or so of Ford ownership the quality and reliability of the Jaguar product got better each and every year. A 1991 XJ6 sedan has the potential to be a very good car. While they had more electronic gizmos that can get out of sorts, the AJ6 engine and ZF transmissions made a very strong and reliable drivetrain. Probably the only negative on this car is that the rear brakes were still mounted "inboard" and are much more labor intensive for maintenance and repairs. Somewhere along about 1993 or 94 the rear brakes were moved to the "outboard" position and are much easier to work on. Hope this helps!

Hell I thought the Ford ones are worse, these cars are valueless in my country,a friend used to import damaged ones from Japan just cause he had a thing for them, when he picked the good parts out to keep his running he was left a whole lot of bits no one wanted.
My parents had Jags for years and all the latter ones they had were total lemons,my Dad pulled the pin and my brother and I got him a 5 series BMW.
The US market cars suffered more due to smog laws which did nothing for performance and bad reliablity to start with.
Heard the later XJ8 goes well???

My 94 xj6 was one of the most care free cars I've ever owned. Rode like a Rolls, quiet, and never a dime in care. I would own another in a heartbeat.

This is typical of the experiences that my friends had with Jaguar cars from the '90s and later. In fact, there was one year (can't remember which one) that Jaguar took the "most reliable" title of any cars sold in the US. While it is not likely that everyone would get a perfect example, apparently a lot of buyers did!

Milt had one of those I think, liked it if I remember right.

I knew a guy with a Jag convertible back in the '90s, he drove that thing all over Texas and never had any trouble with it.

I thought Milt would have something really cool like a XKE or something with a big V12 in it.

I owned a '91 XJ6 for about 4 years and 60K miles. Super reliable, quiet and smooth. Only reliability issues I saw was valve guide seals at 100K and the ECU at 120K. Never left me stranded. Never leaked any fluids. The AJ16 cars (around 1995-97) are supposedly better. Forget the worn out jokes from people who have never owned these cars about Lucas (they used Bosch in the AJ6s) or oil leaks. These were pretty solid cars but these cars are old now and time has not been kind. But a very beautiful car.

I bought a '94 XJ6 in '97 with 18,000 miles and drove it for another 36,000 more over three years with almost no issues. Great riding car.

The Ford Jags are great cars. I owned an X308 XJR for a while, it was a fantastic and reliable car. One of the few that I miss.
