Cool Power Kite Foils on the Oregon Coast Video = FUN

The last week we attended a big gathering of HUGE Power Traction Foil Kites on the Oregon Coast, sand buggy drivers, static stationary fliers, and a huge kite festival to boot.

As you can tell, yeah we had fun up and down the coast........read the credits from my video, for tight line bliss in many locations.

damnnnn 3 days later I'm just now recovering and I'm still sore.........but I'm blessed with a wife who flies too! She even does short sessions with the ViperS 6.8 sq meter sail, 20 foot wide foil......!

Drive, fly kites, eat, wine, fly, drive, eat, eat, fly, wine wine, fly fly fly.

enjoy!

Looks like fun. I can see why you'd be sore. I'm surprised you don't have to wear weight belts or tether yourself to the ground for some of those.

Looks like one heck of a good time. But....that was a California song, it was good though.

Not a big fan of that music, but enjoyed the video despite it.

I was in Oregon for a month back in September of 2008, those kites must fly near year around because I saw quite a few.

Why was the song for an event in Oregon about having fun in California?

if you notice in a couple of my flight video snippets, you can see I'm wearing a backbrace, with a hook on the front, where you attach the "stropp" rope" that runs between both kite line handles.

Being "hooked in" you take the load off your shoulders/arms, and helps direct the energy to your legs.

Most all the buggy drivers are "hooked in" too.

You really have to respect the power of these kites, you can get hurt very easily in one wind gust and be pulled face first across the sand, or have an OBE (out of buggy) experience. If you google on u-tube, the are many video clips of people lofted up 30-40 feet or more through the air, some people like to intentionally jump too...........no thanks.

My full Quiver of Kites contains a 1.7m, 2.3m, 3m, 3.3m, and the 6.8m.

For those interested in getting into it to feel the rush of power, a 2.5-3m is enough to wet your pants and scream like a little school girl.

quad lines kites provide braking, and reverse launch capability, but a twin line steerable foil is still a hoot.

This 3.3 was my first, not too expensive at $150 shipped, which is a great deal.

Buster Soulfly - PKD KITES USA

My wife's Beamer 3m is an excellent kite too, but is double that price, but also is twice as responsive as the Buster Soulfly.

HQ - Beamer V

if people are interested, peak here for great deals on used gear.

Wise words of advice, don't go any bigger than 3m for your first foil. I keep mine in the back of the car for spontaneous fly, as a foil simply rolls up into a small duffle bag,
