I happened across this little nugget today, this is the book that Ben Collins about his time as the Stig.

Damn, it must have just gone on sale as I paid like $7 for it a few weeks ago. Pretty good book, actually. Didn't realize he was a fairly successful racer. I can see the challenge of trying to get a paid ride, knowing that a sponsor would sign The Stig in a heartbeat but not being able to tell anyone.
